Farouck Obeid Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

My impression of Dr Obeid is high. He knows what he is doing in his field. He cares, he listens and follows thru.
When he was going to be gone from the hospital he took time to call me. I thought that was classy.
He is also honest.
He goes over all details and makes sure your informed.
Both his bedside manner and most definatly his surgical competence are very high. VERY HIGH.
I don't have any thing bad to say about this Doctor.
He is super.....

Going to consult next week will know more then it's Feb: 24.....

My first impression of Dr Obeid was not the greatest, he seemed very rushed and was kind of in and out of the room before I even knew what hit me. He did have a group meeting where he answered all of the questions I had to ask.

When I went down for my surgery he was very friendly (which makes me believe that first visit was a fluke) he came to my room to check on me every day I was in the hospital (4). He did a great job on my surgery, I have had no major problems (a seroma but that wasn't his fault).

When you go down for your appointment be ready for a long wait, they seem to over book for what ever reason. For my consultation it was a 1 hour 45 minute wait, and for my first check up after surgery it was a 45 minute wait. I think if Hurley Center for Comprehensive Weight Loss could improve on something this should be at the top of their list.

The after care is good, they have a nutritionalist on staff, and they have you going to visit the doctor several times in the first year. I would like to see the "hand book" that they give out with a little more information about what we can eat the first 6 weeks after surgery.

Overall I am very happy with Dr Obeid, and I am very happy to have had the surgery thru his offices.

My first impression of Dr. Obeid is that he has a great sense of humor, he's smart, and although he's busy, he really cares. Cares about his patients being healthy, cares about excellence, cares that everything goes right, and cares that all doctors should care. (If they don't they are in wrong business, he says.) All of this while being straight-forward and very likeable. He has a high opinion of my personal physician (Dr. Samson Kpadenou of Sterling Heights Michigan) and explained in detail why he likes my doctor so much. I've known Dr. Kpadenou for several years and know that Dr. Obeid knew exactly what he was talking about---thus I was very impressed indeed. Overall, I had an excellent first impression of the surgeon himself. His office staff is friendly and courteous---very much so---although terribly busy. Don't know how they stay so nice, but they definitely are. Warning: When you go for your first appointment, be prepared to stay for a long first visit. If you like, bring a book. I chatted with other patients, but was still glad I brought a book anyway. They tell you about the long wait up-front in the letter they send you before the appointment, and they mean it---you have several appointments, then a group meeting at the end, so you have to wait for everyone to finish. But it is worth the wait in the end. The risks of surgery were directly addressed in detail, for which I am grateful, and the after-care program is structured, required and sounds great. Looking forward to learning a great deal more as things progress. I have only just begun my journey and must go through the lengthy approval process. I would love to hear from other patients of Dr. Obeids!

Dr. Obeid was so nice. He was very informative and answered all my questions. He joked around and had a very good sense of humor. The office staff were very informative and courteous as well. My impression of Dr. Obeid has increased over time... he is an excellent surgeon and has a wonderful bedside manner. He is very adament about doing the breathing exercises.. he knew that I had not been doing them as often as I should have because I had a fever and advised me to do it more. I did and the next day my fever was gone. They have a very structured aftercare program and also encourage you to follow up with your private physician. In my book, Hurley Comprehensive Weight Loss Center is a 10! Dr. Obeid is an 11!!

Dr Obeid is a great guy. he tells you straight up what the risk are how the surgery is and what is to be expected.. there are no guessing games with him. he is a very christian guy and isnt afraid to hide it. His staff was very good and i'd recommend anyone who is thinking about this surgery to talk to one of his nurses.. to tell everyone now everyone i met there patients wise was very afraid of the staples and of not drinking there soda anymore staples dont hurt they have a little tool that pushes in the middle of them and brings it right out. and giveing up your junkfood and soda is not that hard after surgery all you want is your water...
After surgery the only thing i didnt like was the lack of help from floor 9 at the hosptial the burn unit.. they are not the fastest to respond and some of the nurses were not to friendly.. but there were a few that were just great.. i'm sorry i didnt get there names but i was lucky to be awake enough to do anything but listen and want a popcicle... good luck to all....

My consultation with Dr Obeid was on 11-11-03. Tomorrow (12-23) that will be six weeks ago. He is a very kind and compassionate man. I spent most of the day at his office in various group sessions with a Bariatric Specialist, a Dietician, and Dr. Obeid. This was in addition to my individual appointment with him. The entire procedure, aftercare, and risks were explained in great detail. I am an RN so I went into my meeting with him armed with a long list of specific medical and statistical questions. Dr. Obeid was wonderful. He sat and patiently answered each and every question. His office staff was very kind, though today I am a bit frustrated with them because the only thing holding up the final request to my insurance company is the typing of a letter that dr. Obeid dictated nearly six weeks ago. That is very furstrating. I offered to type it myself. That didn't find that to be too funny. The woman I spoke to said it will now be at least after the holidays before it gets done. This whole process started for me in June. Lots of waiting.................

I AM WRITING ABOUT DR. OBEID. FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT BIG TIME FOR ME AND MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR. OBEID WAS THAT I SAW HIM AS A GENTLE, CARING PERSON WHO PERFORMS THESE SURGERIES TO HELP SO MANY PEOPLE. HE HAS COMPASSION AND UNDERSTANDING. THE STAFF IS ALSO WONDERFUL!! THEY ARE VERY KNOWLEDGABLE IN THIS FIELD AND DO THEIR BEST TO MAKE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE. THEY WERE ALL VERY UPFRONT ABOUT THE RISKS DURING AND AFTER SURGERY AND ALSO THEIR AFTERCARE PROGRAM IS VERY DETAILED. YOU CANNOT FAIL IF YOU FOLLOW ALL THE RULES. I WOULD RECOMEND DR. OBEID AND HIS PROGRAM TO ALL. THANKS,

I found Dr. Obeid to be awesome! He addressed all the issues concerning the surgery very thoroughly. He is also an experienced trauma surgeon so I know I will be in good hands. Dr. Obeid is very upfront & honest, I like that. He explained all the risks and benifits. He explained that this is a lifechange, and I would have to be willing to make that change. The staff was very friendly & very sensitive to your feelings. They have a nutrition/nurse who speaks to you. There staff helps you with getting your surgery approved with your insurance company. They work with you closely before and after surgery to make sure you're doing everything that your suppose to. I haven't had my surgery yet so I can't rate Dr. Obeid's bedside manner yet, but I have heard he is awesome!

Dr. Obeid's bedside manner was the best! He was so very compassionate & very understanding to all my needs. He even has a great sense of humor which is nice. I would highly recommend Dr. Obeid to anyone who is considering this surgery. If I was to rate Dr. Obeid from a 1-10 as 10 being the best, I would give him a "15." He is a perfectionist in every way.

Very nice, and informative. I found him to be very thorough in every aspect of the surgery. He left no stones unturned if there was a kpast history of anything that could cause problems either at the time of the surgery or in the future. I feel very confident with Dr. Obeid as my surgeon, and his list of creditials boost my confidence even more.

He is very caring and discusses w8ith you the all the possible outcomes before and after the surgery so you are aware of what to expect and not.
