Drs. Macura and Lazzaro were very professional in their demeanor, and very human.
Outstanding staff, very attentive and caring.
Experience and competency, you're in great hands.
Strongly encourages aftercare.
Generally, twice a month, very informative.
very soberly
The Team gets a 12 out of 10!
I would prefer surgical competency, but I truly found neither lacking in any way.

Dr. Macura is a wonderful & kind an excellent surgeon. I researched everything decided he was the Dr. for me based on the comments of other patients. After meeting him - it all came together. I made the right decision. His staff is very helpful - Gertrude is an angel. She has comforted me and educated me. After my surgery, Dr. Macura came to follow up on me several times. The hospital was great. I felt like I was the only one in the hospital - they really watched over me. My overall experience on my journey is an A++!

My meeting with Dr.Macura was quite informative. I was taken aback that he was so young looking. He has such a quiet manner about him. He was very honest and spoke to me not at me. He took the time to be very honest about all the problems that the surgery could give me. His office staff was great. The stand outs to me where Anna and Sandra. In his Brooklyn office, Anna and Gertrude reigned supreme. I have nothing negative to say about Dr. Macura or Dr. Lazzaro. I would encourage anyone who is considering WLS to see Dr. Macura. He will have you take every test that there is to ensure that you have a successful surgery and post op. As he says, the surgery is part of the battle the rest us up to you. I feel that he is an angel who changed my life. I only experienced a scheduling problem with his office in Brooklyn.

Dr. Macura was wonderful, my husband was with me and started to ask some questions that I was uncomfortable with...(in fact, I wanted to trip him on the way out of the office)but anyway Dr. Macura answered every question, explained the lap-band surgery and I was very impressed with him. I met with Gertrude too and she is the sweetest lady I ever met, she goes out of her way for you.

My first impression of him was that he was not very warm. But in working with him, I saw that what he lacks in warmth, he more than makes up in professionalism and thoroughness. He makes sure that everything is done the right way, with no shortcuts taken. That is very comforting. He has a deep knowledge of his work and always shows that he knows what he is talking about.
In general, the office staff is helpful, though one particular person in the staff can be rude and cross. The rest of them are great.
Aftercare is very important for Dr. Macura, and even before the surgery, he wants to assure you are going to comply with the regimen and follow up.
Aftercare is explained and mapped out for you. You know when to make appointments, when to do your lab work, the food progression, etc. Very good foolow up program.
Risks of surgery are well explained. You leave the office with peace of mind. I didn't feel rushed. He gave me all the time I needed for questions and explanations.
Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Macura. Even though surgical competence and bedside manner are both desirable qualities together, I would rather have a highly competent doctor caring for me than a lovey dovey one. So surgical competence is definetly better in my opinion.

I FOUND MY FIRST MEETING WITH DR. MACURA TO BE GREAT. HE SEEMED TO BE A VERY CALM AND EASY GOING PERSON AND MADE ME FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE. HE DID NOT RUSH ME AT ALL AND ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS.
DR. MACURA ALSO MADE SURE I KNEW ALL THE RISKS INVOLVED WITH SURGERY. WE DISCUSSED EVERYTHING VERY THOROUGHLY.BEING THAT I HAVE A VERY HIGH BMI, HIS SUGGESTION TO ME WAS THAT I HAVE THE SURGERY IN TWO PARTS.
HE FEELS THIS WILL BE LESS OF A RISK FOR ME AND I KNOW HE IS LOOKING OUT FOR MY SAFETY.
I PUT MY TRUST IN HIM AND I KNOW I WILL BE FINE.
THE STAFF IS VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL.
AND THE WAITING ROOM IS ALSO VERY COMFORTABLE WITH PLENTY OF WIDE AND ROOMY CHAIRS.
I'M SURE ANYONE WHO GOES TO SEE HIM WILL BE VERY HAPPY WITH HIM.

Dr. Macura is the sweetest, nicest man. He had no problems answering any of my questions and didnt once make me feel like he was annoyed at having to do so being they are the same questions most people ask.
His staff is great, they are all so sweet and will do anything they can to accomodate you. His office is VERY busy I will say that, but he has 3 other colleagues there that perform surgeries as well.
Anytime I need him day or nite, he can be contacted and he is pretty strict about being the one to see me since he did my surgery..he doesnt "push me off" on his colleagues if he isnt around.
As for his surgical competence and the bedside manner, both are great.

I really liked Dr. Macura and his surgical team (Dr. Nicastro, McMullen(sp?). The were all great and very sensitive to my specific needs although I know this is very routine for them. Their staff is great in general, but I did have an occasion with one where I was yelled at and told that I was on my own because I simply could not make it out to Staten Island any longer for the follow-up appointments. (Please note: that follow-up is very important and I still do this and keep them abreast of all that is happening with me). I just did not appreciate being yelled at because circumstances did not allow me to make it to their offices. On the whole, they were a great bunch of people who were very helpful through this life-changing process.
