7-10-2000 Had my initial consul with dr.Macura. He seemed pleasent and confident. He recognaized my research and spoke to me straightforward, explaining risks, possible complications, and method of the procedure. He made me feel comfortable about the decision I have made. The office staff is supportive and informative especially Anna, who spoke with me number of times.
On November 14,2000 I meet Dr.Macura's partner Dr.Nicastro who emphasizes aftercare very much. They both give me confidence that I will be in good hands.

Dr. Macura and his associate, Dr. Nicastro, are both soft spoken, articulate, eager to inform, willing to answer many questions, nonjudgmental, flexible. Fully addressed risks and options of surgery.
Efficient office staff; office not crowded or overbooked. Pleasant surroundings.
Aftercare and supplements very important and emphasized as such. Structured programs in place pre- and post-op.
Overall very good.
POSTOP: Still feel this was the right surgical team for me. Drs. Macura and Nicastro both saw me in follow up when I was in the hospital.
Had occasion to phone Dr. Macura on a Saturday with a problem -- he returned my call within 5 minutes! My overall impression is still very, very good.

My first impression of Dr. Macura was that he seemed to be very busy. That quickly changed when he sat down to speak with me and explained the procedure in detail. He is very soft spoken and straight to the point. He answered all of my questions. His staff is very friendly. Gertrude explained her surgery to me and answered some questions also. I have not had my surgery yet but I feel very comfortable with Dr. Macura. I attend group meetings weekly and speak to people who have had the surgery done with him. I have yet to hear anything negative about him and I am confident that he is the right surgeon for me.

He was soft spoken and had a kind smile, which made me very at ease with him.
Dr Macura has an office staff that is efficient, friendly and "in the know". They handled all of the insurance approvals for me and I had approval in just a few weeks. I first saw Dr. Macura, Gertrude (who has had the surgery herself) and Sandra, the nutrionist on March 9, 1999. I had my surgery on April 5, 1999.
From the very first visit Dr Macura has answered all my questions, been very patient and very supportive.
Aftercare is stressed and Dr Macura has a nutrionist who meets with patients in group sessions once a week, which I find to be an excellent way to chart progress and share experiences.
Dr Macura addressed all the risks of the RNY surgery, answering all my questions and reassuring me that while there were risks, they were ones that were managable.
I found him to be extremely competent surgically and he had a very good bedside manner, as did his surgical assistant.
I should point out that Dr Macuras office is always busy. Patients are seen by appointment, however, all patients are welcome to "walk-in" to check weight loss progress, which adds to the busy atmosphere of his office.

I scheduled a meeting at his Brooklyn location on Ocean Ave...I first spent 1 hour talking with his assistant, Gertrude...what a doll! Not only is she full of excellent advice, she was a patient of his and she looks great ! She was free with her own life story and her RNY surgery..a fact that was very comforting to me. When it was time to speak with Macura, I was glad to meet him. He is soft spoken and non-judgemental. He was interested in my well being , though he is not into excessive conversation.... fact I like as I want the best in surgery, not sweet talking!
He is honest and exact with the risks, yet he explains that there are ways of dealing with almost all of them...he made sure that I was 100% aware of them all. He seemed to like the fact that I did my Homework on this matter as he often questioned me..nothing major, just to see if I was comprehending him...very well done ! Overall, I am happy to have access to such a wonderful program...I look forward to many more meetings..both pre and post op!

I was initially a little worried about Dr. Macura's having been educated in Poland, but after researching him and meeting him, I find him to be a wonderful person with a reputation as a highly skilled surgeon. He was kind and offered excellent information the first meeting, and I expect to find the same on my second meeting. I am preop, and working with his office is a joy. They are keeping on top of the insurance request, they offer support group meetings (first one last night) and are always available to answer questions or offer assistance.
Aftercare is extremely important to Dr. Macura's program, which includes frequent follow up visits and lab work, along with support group meetings (including psych specific meetings) and at several locations. I will update this as I progress with through the program.
