I was very impressed with Dr.Macura's Mannerisms and expertise. He was very specific with his drawings and explainations.
Over time I just Liked him more and more.
The office staff is great, they are always very helpful and speedy. As far as I know Dr. Macura has the best aftercare program around. He stresses that you attend the support meetings as often as possible. Dr.Macura and his staff pulled no punches when they explained the risked of surgery, they were very honest which I respected. I think Dr. Macura was and still is the best. Both his Surgical competence and bedside manner are fantistic.

The Dr.'s were competent, friendly, willing to answer any questions, supportive. The staff was professional always returned my calls, did all the paperwork relating to the insurance. I can't say enough about the office.I would recommend him to anyone. The pre and post support is incredible suppoer groups every week and free counselling post op to help you deal with the changes happening to you.

MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR. MACURA COULDN'T HAVE BEEN BETTER. HE IS SOFT SPOKEN, YET TO THE POINT. HE ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS BEFORE I HAD THE CHANCE TO ASK THEM. HE TOLD ME ABOUT ALL THE RISKS OF SURGERY, AND I STILL LEFT HIS OFFICE CONFIDENT. FROM BEGINNING TO PRESENT IT HAS BEEN A VERY POSSITIVE EXPERIANCE WITH HIM AND HIS ENTIRE STAFF!
AFTERCARE IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS PRE-OP TO DR. MACURA AND HIS NUTRISTIONIST SANDRA. THEY STRESS THAT YOU MUST TAKE YOUR VITAMINS, HAVE BLOOD WORK, AND FOLLOW UP WITH THE DR. HE HAS FREE SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS, THAT ARE VERY HELPFUL!
AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED I WENT TO THE BEST, AND I WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING!

Well when I first met him he was kind of shy but straight to the point, he explain to me the risk of the R-NY and the DS and he recomended the DS for me and he answered all my questions. The staff at his office in Brooklyn wasn't all of that, the blond lady(i don't know her name) gave me a hard time. My appointment was for 4:00pm but I didn't see him until probably 5:00pm and that is because I complained to her(since she was putting other patients with a later appointment in front of me). I like his attention but I felt like the visit was very short . He let me know the different test that I have to finish and to call him once I finish them so I can make an appointment. What I found amazing is that one week after I saw him at his office I received a letter from my insurance with my approval and I was shocked and it made me feel like they were really on their job. The staff in the Staten Island office is the best you can find, they will call you back if you leave a message and they bend over backwards for you.

I KNEW DR. MACURA DURING HIS RESIDENCY. HE WAS THOROUGH,SERIOUS AND PATIENT ORIENTED. MY IMPRESSION HAS ONLY IMPROVED.HIS OFFICE STAFF IS ORGANIZED,FRIENDLY, ENCOURAGING AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. THE COORDINATOR OF THE PROGRAM HAS HAD THE SURGERY HERSELF;SHE IS A PATIENT ADVOCATE.DR. MACURA FOLLOWS THE ESTABLISHED PROTOCOL FOR BARIATRIC SURGERY. HE WANTS HIS PATIENTS TO TOLERATE THE PROCEDURE SAFELY; HIS PRE-OP SCREENING IS INVOLVED AND SOME PATIENTS ARE DISAPPOINTED IN THAT. THE AFTERCARE PROGRAM IS GOOD; FOLLOWUP APPOINTMENTS WITH THE MD ARE FREQUENT; THE NUTRITIONIST IS AVAILABLE BY PHONE, SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS AND AT WEEKLY SUPPORT GROUPS. THERE ARE PSYCH SUPPORT GROUPS WITH A THERAPIST. PATIENTS ARE REFERRED TO AN MD NUTRITIONIST FOR FOLLOWUP CARE. THESE VISITS USUALLY START IN HOSPITAL.OUR INFORMED CONSENT CONVERSATIONS WERE THOROUGH;NUTRITIONIST SUPPLIES PATIENT WITH A BOOKLET THAT OUTLINES THE SCREENING AND SURGICAL PROCEDURE ON THE FIRST VISIT. THIS INCLUDES MUCH OF WHAT THE PATIENT NEEDS TO KNOW PRE- AND POST-OP. I WAS, AND CONTINUE TO BE, PLEASED WITH THE CARE OFFERED BY DRS. MACURA AND NICASTRO. BEDSIDE MANNER AND SURGICAL COMPETENCE IS A GREAT COMBINATION AND LUCKILY THESE PHYSICIANS HAVE BOTH. BEING THE REALIST, I WOULD TAKE SURGICAL COMPETENCE OVER BEDSIDE MANNER ANY DAY.

My first impression was a sense of awe that this man could refabricate my digestive system, with skill and grace. Dr. Macura seems to be a kind man, very busy, and very attentive to his patients. He spent over and hour with me, describing both surgery options, drawing anatomical pictures, and making sure I knew about both.
The surgery was performed by both Dr. Macura & Dr. Nocastro, his partner. I felt to be in excellent hands, as they have both performed hundreds, if not thousands of WLS procedures.
The office staff was and continues to be extremely helpful, with an excellent nutritional booklet that has all the details pre and post-op, with a very structured diet.
The nutritional counseling was key, because I knew all I needed to know, and was fully prepped for this surgery, and I felt very comfortable returning home.
I must say that my teams' surgical expertise far outweighed the bedside manner, however I think I would say that I did not 'settle' in any way. I was totally thrilled with the care I recieved (although the nursing staff at Staten Island University Hospital leaves much to be desired in my experience, this bore no reflection on my surgical team or office staff).
I have recommended many people to Dr. Macura and his staff, and will continue to do so!! I would do this again in a heartbeat...

Dr Macura is a very caring man He takes the need of his patients in to consideration but does not forget the reason for them coming to him. He is to the point and talked to me not at me. He truly cares for all his patients. Before during and after Surgery. He stresses the blood workups and now 5 months later still wants me coming in to see him every 3 months and has stressed that if any problems arise I should call his office.
His staff is wonderful They have could have informed Dr Macura on a problem that came up 2 days before surgery and I had to work around them a little bit But when Dr Macura did get involved the problem was handled quickly and efficiently and they stayed after hours on a Friday afternoon to do so. I respect every one of them in his office. There is a former gastric Bypass patient on his staff so they do understand that I was going through 1st hand.
I myself having MS Dr. Macura took great care in making sure that My Neurologist understood the surgery I was planing and also conferred with him one on one what to expect from my MS after such a trauma to my body. In the words of my Neurologist "This is not the same thing as taking a flu shot" and I was glad to know Dr. Macura wanted his input into drug treatment for me and my MS. I was also glad the 2nd surgeon Dr Nacastro a Surgeon that specializes in High Rick Surgeries was there to meet me in the hospital the day of surgery and The bedside manor of both these men was as good as there exceptional surgical skills and being able to see the person as a person with feelings is just as important as knowing how to do the operation. Dr Macura and all his staff is Top A+++ in my eye. If you are in the Tri-State area and can get to Staten Island and are thinking of Gastric Bypass surgery Try to see him. You are more then a $ or a number in his eye You are a Person!!!

Dr. Macura is very nice...I feel ok with him..(I don't like dr.) He make me feel relax. He office staff is very busy..so it is a fast past..but if you have any question, it will be answered..He do emphasize aftercare...so do his staff..He has a aftercare program...and you can come to groups before surgery..He does address the risks of surgery...all test must be completed before insurance reguest is submitted..

I found Dr. Macura to be very pleasent and attentive to my questions.
His staff is extremely helpful also.
He is very busy and his office gets overcrowded, but I thin this is a NYC thing.
On my first visit we talked a long time and he described the difference between RNY and DS. He suggested the DS for me. This was the first I had heard of the DS so I had to think about it. He answered all my questions fully.
Later visits seemed more rushed. He seemed to be running someplace. Before I knew it the visit was over. Later I realized that I had forgotten to ask something, but called in and Vinny answered everything for me. Next time I'll go with a written list so I won't forget.
I liked Dr. Macura very much and found his surgery skills excellent. I'm told the operation only took 1 1/2 hours, the incision was 6 inches which seems short for an open. He visited every morning in the hospital and his associates visited in the afternoon. So, I felt well looked after.
I would recommend Dr.Macura to anyone.

When I first met with Dr. Macura I found him to be a gentle, calm and very informative physician. He doesnt talk in medical terminology and answers every question. His office staff is WONDERFUL, they can not do enough for u. Because I had many complications, which I truly believe were not Dr. M's fault, there were times I wanted to kill him because of what i went through. I know it sounds contradictory but i went through alot, and he pulled me through EVERY step of the way. His partner, Dr. Nicastro is WONDERFUL too but needs alittle of Dr. M's bedside manner, he is a tell it like it is dr. Their aftercare plan is very structured and they do emphasize it greatly. Both drs. were up front honest about the risks of the surgery. I did alot of researching on the net myself. I would recommend Dr. Macura in a heartbeat, he has great surgical competence and bedside manner.
