I have chosen Dr. Champion in Marietta, Ga. because of his knowledge and experience. I called his office July 22nd and was approved and had a surgery date for Nov. 14th by July 25th. I was really shocked at how quick his office staff worked.
I met Judy from Dr. Champion's office 09-13-02 and she was real nice and able to move my WLS date up to Oct.30th do to my ruptured disk and needing back surgery.
I have watched Dr. Champion on the Discovery Channel doing a Gastric bypass on a guy from Tenn. and I was real impressed with his knowledge. My pre-op is set for Oct.25th and so far I think my surgeon's office is the best.
I made it the surgery was easier then I was thinking. Dr. Champion was wonderful and I would rate him the best. He knows his stuff and the hospital nurses all love him and think his the best of the best.
.

Dr Champion was recommended to me by my physician Dr. A. Karpas, here in Atlanta. My first impression in just entering his office was of a calm environment and very well organized. I liked that he wore a yellow tropical shirt and he's hot! All his staff is considerate, and never, ever, made a remark about my weight. The girls were wonderful in explaining about my insurance and date of surgery, and willing to answer my many questions and concerns.
I know he emphasizes aftercare and I've been to 2 of his support meetings were his nurse Michelle tries to address all answers and issues. This meetings are held in the hospital were Dr. Champion performs the surgery and it gives you the opportunity to view the surroundings.
I’ve read many opinions about his bedside manner, but I believe a surgeon or doctor’s bedside manner depends on how you behave. He is willing to give me the best treatment if I follow all the instructions he has proposed for a successful surgery. I don’t want him to pamper me; I want the professional that he is to take care of me. My daughters, my mother and family will be there to pamper me.

At first I didn't think that Dr. Champion had much of a bedside manner. Everything was cut and dried and routine to him but it was all new to me. But he was very nice in the hospital and on my return visit at 6 weeks. The office staff was very helpful and kind.
I guess the emphasis on money is a big factor. If the money is all settled then they are willing to talk to you but not until it is all settled up front.
Also I don't feel that I can call them with anything much less than an emergency.
They do emphasize aftercare programs including support groups. I think that that is necessary.
The most important thing is that I felt that Dr. Champion was an extremely competent and skilled surgeon. That was the most important thing to me.

MY FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH DR. CHAMPION WAS THAT I INSTANTLY LIKED HIM. HE WAS MATTER OF FACT, DID NOT PUT ME DOWN ABOUT MY WEIGHT, IN FACT TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO GAIN 15 MORE POUNDS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS SURGERY OR HAVE A CO-MORBITITY FOR MY INSURANCE TO COVER. ONCE I HAD THE SLEEP STUDY AND FAILED I SENT HIM THE STUDY, HIS OFFICE CONTACTED MY INSURANCE AND I JUST WAITED. BEFORE LONG I HAD BEEN APPROVED AND I NEVER LOOKED BACK. I TRUSTED HIM COMPLETELY, BECAUSE I KNEW I NEEDED TO GET ALL THIS EXCESS WEIGHT OFF. HIS OFFICE STAFF IS VERY COURTEOUS AND PROFESSIONAL AND WILL CONTACT YOU. HE IS VERY CONCERNED WITH AFTERCARE AND FOLLOWING A LIFE DIET PLAN. HE CARES ABOUT US AFTER THE SURGERY AND DOES FOLLOWUPS. HE HAS AN ACTIVE AFTERCARE PROGRAM AND HE HAS A SITE THAT GOES IT GREAT DETAIL ABOUT THE SURGERY-PRO AND CONS, RISKS AND BENEFEITS. I WOULD NOT EVER CONSIDER NOT USING HIM. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE WHO ASKED. I THINK HE HAS A GREAT BEDSIDE MANNER-WAS VERY NICE TO ME IN THE HOSPITAL AND WAS JUST A WONDERFUL SURGEON , MY ONLY COMPLAINT ABOUT USING HIM WAS THAT THE WAIT WAS SO LONG AFTER MY APPROVAL-ABOUT 3 MONTHS. AND THAT IS AN ETERNITY TO SWEAT OUT.

I met Dr. C two days before surgery. He was just a smiling country boy. He is very easy on the eyes and seemed extremely confident. I went in trusting his reputation and numbers; and came out trusting him. My husband and I were well informed and he answered our questions w/out hesitation. I already knew most of the answers thanks to Michele (his nurse). Overall, I liked him and I owe him my life.

Dr. Champion was very up front and direct about what to expect with the surgery. He quickly let me know this was not a cure all but a "tool" that can help you reach and maintain your goal weight.
His office staff is always helpful and friendly but EXTREMELY busy. To me this is a good sign because it reflects his work.
I can't think of anything I didn't like about him. He is the kind of person I like as a healthcare professional: Well informed abou their practice, direct and honest about what's to come. unafraid to answer any questions and commited to proper follow-up care.
Overall I would give him a 9 out of 10 simple because of MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with him and his staff. I have had no complaints, no complications and no unanswered questions. He's WELL worth the wait!

Dr. Champion took his time with me when we met and answered all questions that I had. I have only met him once but that first impression is a lasting one. He is professional yet informative. Dr. Champion's office staff CANNOT be beat. They are so very kind and treat you like you're the only patient they have! I will have to comment more on Dr. Champion when I get to know him better after a few appointments. :) But so far, so good.
