My first inpression of Dr. Champion was a very knowledgable surgeron with compassion. He was very stern on his post-op care. He knows his after care will work and expects you to follow his rules. Which is one thing I admire about him. He is very honest and open about the risk of surgery. I would rate Dr. Champion a 10. His office staff is very nice and caring. If you have to leave a voice mail message they always return it within a few hours.

Dr. Champion is GREAT! He really made me belive I could do this. Was very understanding about everything, and want I liked most about him was that he is very honest with me.
His office staff was very helpful, and seemed very caring.
Dr. Champion gave me both surgical competence and bedside manner he was GREAT!
I diffently give him a 10 for PERFECT!

My husband and I met with Dr. Champion on Nov. 4th, before I had a surgery date but after I'd been approved.
We were both impressed with his straight forward, attentive and informative approach. He has a dry sense of humor, too.
That visit included watching an educational video & taking a quiz after [!].
Both his printed info packet, presentation, and in person meeting emphasized that this was a serious and life-changing step. The risks have been, literally, spelled out in the packet of info.
During the monthly support group meetings he has attended, there have been persons who have provoked Dr. C to some pretty no-nonsense responses about trying to "get around" the dietary demands of post-op; but that brusqueness comes from wanting to see all of us succeed and being frustrated with persons who appear to be sabbotaging themselves.
The office staff is all female and kind, considerate and helpful with info.
Mind you, I'd been attending his monthly Pre-Op support group since September p- it's free and (apparently) open to anyone even considering surgery.
Then I started attending the online chatgroup and seeing their before & after photos and learning all the helpful tips on preparing for and succeeding after surgery.
Total care is what this doc's office provides.
It is nonesenscialto ask, "Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or both?" Without the competence we'd be dead!
Without kindness and consideration the likelihood of stress-induced complications is a real risk, I believe. Both are required.
My surgery date is Feb. 13th at 9am in Atlanta. My husband and I are so happy & excited about our new life together.

The Best in the business
The staff was incredible to work with.
No nonsense only the dedicated to weight loss need apply here.
After care here is big business
One must know the risks going in. These were explained fully.
I couldn't think of putting my life in any other hands for this procedure than Dr. Champion.
I am sure there are many other very competant physicians ofering this procedure but for me I had the right match in Dr. Champion and his associates and staff.

I live in NC and have not met Dr. C
yet, but was sent his package and it
was very informative. My contact with
his staff has been very friendly and
they have been very helpful. Dr. C has
his own site and that really keeps you informed on "his" way of doing things.
The only problem is a 3 month wait. I met Dr. C and found that he is a no nonsense kind of guy, but was very sensitive toward the problems of the obese. Dr. Champion is very concerned about your aftercare and continually stresses the importance of following up. I think as a WLS doctor he is the best of the best. His surgical competence really stood out, which is what I wanted most.

I haven't met Dr. Champion yet, but I know
others that have had the surgery with him and comes highly recommended. When choosing a surgeon, I definately wanted it laporscopically and I know that Dr. Champion is one of the best at this type of surgery.
He is also a board certified physician in the field of bariatrics and is a member of the American Association of Bariatric Surgeons. I will let you know what I think of him when I meet him.

I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT GREAT EXPERIENCES WITH DR CHAMPIONS OFFICE. HIS STAFF IS ALWAYS FRIENDLY AND MORE HELPFUL THAN ANY OTHER OFFICE STAFF I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. THEY WALKED ME THROUGH THE ENTIRE PROCESS, THEY NEVER GOT FRUSTRATED WHEN I ASKED ALL THE MANY QUESTIONS I HAD. THEY ARE VERY DETAILED IN WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE PROCESS FROM BEGINNING TO END. THEY EMPHASIZE AFTERCARE AND HAVE A GREAT SUPPORT SYSTEM SET UP, INCLUDING MONTHLY MEETINGS AT THE HOSPITAL. I REALLY HAVE NOTHING BUT GREAT THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS.

Dr. Champion was extremely competent, professional, meticulous with his desires, needs from patients and hospital staff. He only wants very serious patients who have done their homework and realize that this is a very serious life altering operation.
I wouldn't have any other surgeon do this operation but him. He not only does the RNY but will remove any lacerations that you may have and at no charge to you for the extra time and procedure he has done. He provides an extremely detailed report about 6 weeks post op.
His surgical staff at the hospitals are trained to administer pain medication every 4 hours without being called by you. He demands professionalism from those that work for him and because of this he was widely respected by all the hospital staff that I came into contact with pre and post-op.
I experienced NO PAIN and even wondered if anything was actually done to me for a bit after the surgery. That's how painless it was.
He took excellent care of me and I can't say enough about him. Just remember to leave your cell phone in the car when you go to visit him. If you're not able to do that then check three times before going into his office that it is turned OFF!!!!!!!! Bedside manner means nothing to me. He is not a talkative person. He's a serious person who can get upset. Surgical competence means everything. This is a serious surgery where people had died due to lung collapse or blood clots.
