I don't have an appointment with him yet. I have an appointment with Dr. Ostroff on August 5, 2003. He will refer me to Dr. Patti.

I loved Dr. Patti. Very compassionate, knowledgeable and professional. The whole staff was great. Dr. Pati and team could not stress the importance of aftercare enough. The whole experience was great.

I didn't see Dr. Patti very often, but when I did he spent the time to answer all of my questions and explain everything at my level. He seems to hold his staff of physicians to a very high standard. His office staff is very disorganized, I found that I needed to stay on top of everything, take care of FAXing information, calling for reports, etc. because they seemed to take a lifetime to get things accomplished. Individually, each person in his office was kind and helpful but... I did not have any complications post-op and when I saw him 10 days after the surgery, he discharged me to my primary care physician. This surprised me, because his literature that he distributes indicates that he will follow his patients for at least a year post-op. Essentially there is no after-care for me. I have done a lot of my own research and with the help of my PCP, I have done well post-op. I appreciate Dr. Patti's surgical experience and expertise and I believe that I have had a successful post-op course because of his expertise and because of my PCP's willingness to closely follow my progress.

Kind of strict because I gained six pounds and he threatend to cancel my surgery if I gained one more pound. But I am glad he did he showed me that he cared.

I am sorry the office needs improvement. The lost schedules. Had people sitting there for hours while the patients were waiting to see where laughing and joking and just playing around. And did not seem to care that people were in the waiting room waiting

Dr. Patti is cool but he is very serious. He will not perform the surgery on you if he does not feel that you have made a lifestyle change. Thank God for that because you have too many doctors that could careless.

Yea, but I went on my own because I knew God would make sure that I would be okay.

Um, too well, I asked questions about the death count and he was too honest and it scared me. Not that it was very high it was just there was someone who had no real medical problems (like myself) and was young and she died. That kind of freaked me out because I thought the death only happened to those who were really sick.

I think he is very ambitious and dedicated to helping as many people as he can to have sucsess with wls. I think he's a brilliant surgeon.
His staff and his "team" are very helpful and friendly.
The only thing that I can say that I like least about him is maybe that he is so busy that you see his team mostly, but I understand that he is so busy. His future patients should expect that he will do a great job on their surgery. Aftercare is a big deal and his team tells you all about it and answers all questions. He does address all of the risks. Overall I would give him an "excellent" for his skills and I'm grateful that he and his team at UCSF have such a wonderful before and aftercare program.
As for the last question. His bedside manner is wonderful WHEN you see him.:) He's just so busy helping as many people as he can that he needs all the people on his team to make it come together. As for Competence, he's the best.

My first impression of Dr.Patti was that he is very knowledgeable about this surgery he performs. He will answer any questions and encourage you to ask them. He is one of the best surgeons for this type of surgery, for that he is a busy doctor.

Office staff is friendly, but it is a very busy office.

Only thing is sometimes the doctor is running late and a couple of times I had to wait almost 2 hours to see him.

I feel his bedside manners are wonderful he really listens to you, once you see him.

I thought Dr. Patti an extremely thoughtful and thorough during the initial consultation. Although i did not spend a great deal of time with Dr. Patti, I did have all my questions and concerns addressed. The staff at Dr. Patti's (although he now is in the same office as Dr. Ofstroff) was friendly and I was put in a room fairly quickly once I signed in. I saw Dr. P's nurse, and she brought with her a student of UCSF ( it is a teaching hospital) They were to the point and very nice to deal with. Dr. Patti insists that anyone who is having this procedure understands the seriousness of the surgery. He also wants to know if the patient truly wants this done. He asked questions to assertain whether I wanted this done for me, or if I was doing it for someone else. He did go over the risks of the surgery thoroughly. I gave Dr. Patti a hypothetical post surgical issue. i was told that if this or a similar issue were to come up post op, that I am to come to UCSF, NOT go to my local GP or Gastroenterologist. I was satisfied with that answer. Although I am 2hrs from San Francisco, I would rather make the drive there than go to a doctor who is not familiar with the procedure and possible complications. Is he surgically competent? He has a good record. He also preforms surgeries only 2 days a week, and only 2 a day on those days. He takes his time, and he doesn't over tax himself. I like the idea that Dr. Patti is fresh when he operates. As for his manner, he was very nice. He had a rather thick accent, so there were times that I couldn't understand every work, but he speaks very good English. I felt that his questions were appropriate, his concern appropriate, and overall his demeanor was positive. He had a warm strong handshake. I can tell a lot by a handshake. Dr. Patti is someone I will let operate on me.

Dr. Patti looks at the entire person and not at the fat person. I found him to be (along with his staff at the surgeon's office) very supportive, especially since I tend to get infections from any surgery that I have. When I could not get ahold of the office in charge of the program for the bariatric program, I called Dr. Patti and he called back and addressed my concerns immediately.
