Dr. Iqbal was extreamly helpful and thorough at our first meeting. He is extreamly knowledgable and honest. The office staff is also helpful and very nice.
I have not had my surgery yet and I do not have a date quite yet. I have an appointment to meet with Dr. Iqbal to set a date and discuss all of the necessary information.
Dr. Iqbal was extremely clear about the risks of the surgery. He helped to explain the questons/concerns that I had.
I would have to say that the thing I like the least about him is probably a good thing for all of his patients that are having the surgery or at least in recovery. Dr. Iqubal is always at the hospital and sees his office patients between surgery. I do not like waiting for my appointment over 30 minutes, however, he is attending to his patients who are currently in the hospital. I am sure that is going to mean a lot to me when I am recovering.
Overall I would have to rate him a 10 at the moment. Surgical competence is extreamly important to me. I feel a good bedside manner does not hurt however I think it is much more important that my surgeon be competent.

It took me 5 years to finally take the plunge and have this surgery. 2 years of that were spent looking for a surgeon. I went to several and just wasnt happy. I even walked out of the office of one (Greenbaum - dirty fingernails and bad body odor). I have many friends who have had the surgery and i heard mixed reviews from them about their surgeons. A year ago i was about to have the surgery when my best friend since high school died 2 days post op from complications. I canceled the surgery. No way was I going to be able to go thru in that emotional conition. Finally when i was ready i noticed Dr Iqbal and all the very positive comments on him on this site. I went to see him and TOTALLY LOVED HIM!!!!!!
He is funny, extremely thorough and very caring. I have gotten nothing but excellent service from him. He left no stone unturned and told me the things i had to hear. So far in my 2 weeks post op he has continued to take care of me with total commitment to making sure i am comfortable and healthy. I would never recommend any other doctor. He is the best.

Last night I had a check up with Dr. Iqbal for another medical reason. I told him that I wasn't able to get in for a consult with him until August 19th for the bariatric surgery. He said that he would be able to do an initial on me right then and there! I was ELATED!!!!!!! He took him time to answer questions that I may have, let me know that on July 16th there was going to be a support group meeting at 7pm in the Bridgeton Hospital. Linda, the receptionist said that I should call for a psychiatric consult right now to be sure that I got in to see someone. Dr. Iqbal let me know what kind of things I would be asked. He said that he would write a letter to my insurance company for an approval, and may have a date for me on my August 19th visit. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! That would be fabulous! I have an appointment to see Dr. Friel for a psychiatric consult on August 6th. His receptionist said that I would most definately have the letter typed and sent to Dr. Iqbal by my appointment on August 19th. I hope and pray that things go all this smooth. Dr. Iqbal is very professional and I know from experience in the past that he has wonderful bedside manner. He explains everything in detail, and if you don't understand he takes the time to help you. I would recommend him to anyone! I give him an A+++++!

I HAVE MET WITH DR. IQBAL ONLY ONCE WITH MY CONSULT. (MAY 9, 2003) I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH HIM AND FELT COMFORTABLE. ALSO, THE GIRLS IN HIS OFFICE WERE VERY NICE AND HELPFUL.
5/27/03 SUSAN (VERY NICE PERSON TO TALK TO) FROM DR. IGBAL'S OFFICE CALLED TO LET ME KNOW THAT MY INSURANCE HAS APPROVED MY SURGERY. MY APPOINTMENT IS ON JUNE 19. CAN'T WAIT!!!
6/20/03 I'VE GOT A DATE...SEPTEMBER 10, 2003.
LOTS OF TESTS AND LAB WORK TO DO 1ST. COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS. DR. IQBAL AND STAFF ARE THE BEST!

My first impression of Dr.Iqbal was that he is a very nice man. He answered all of my questions and even answered questions I didn't even think about asking. He is very blunt,he told me what to expect. His office staff is very nice.He emphisizes much on after care. There was nothing I didn't like about him.I would send friends to him.

Dr. Iqbal was referred to me by my PCP - I was a little nervous about going to Bridgeton Hospital but my PCP really felt strongly about Dr. Iqbal so I figured I would give him a try. Called the ofice to schedule an appointment - staff seemed pleasant but busy. First appointment - Nov. 5, 2002 - Office small but clean and comfortable. Dr. Iqbal was great - explained everything in detail and let me know exactly what was going to happen. Surgery scheduled for Jan. 29, 2003 - Dr. Iqbal is a wonderful and very experienced surgeon - very dedicated to his patients. Office staff can be a little rude at times (Linda)- but all in all, the office is wonderful.

When I first went to Dr. Iqbal I was very impressed with his office staff. They were very helpful and treated me as though I was the most important person. I've witnessed them since then and they share the same information with all the patients without acting like they were bored with it. Dr. Iqbal was very plain spoken, and straight forward.
I felt very comfortable with him and the information he gave me. He was prepared with a packet that explained the surgery that he would do as well as other procedures that he did not do. After I asked all of my questions, he explained some things that I did not ask. He then sent me home for 3 weeks to research and decide what I wanted to do.
Dr. Iqbal's staff helped me to stay organized to make all of my appointments for testing and conferences as they were needed. The doctor went over the procedure again a few days before surgery and answered any more questions. He does not rush you, he lets you ask what you want to know and then really answers you. The surgery was delayed due to
an emergency but Dr. Iqbal kept me posted personally. Post Surgery I was kept very comfortable and I had the feeling that Dr. Iqbal was always aware of my progress and came to see me often, even at unusual hours. He just always seemed to be accessable. I don't think there is anything that I don't like about my surgeon. I am 3 month post surgery and
I just finished up with my bi-monthly visits. Now I go back to him in March. He is very serious about me showing up for my next visit. The post surgery aftercare was stressed as very important. He also encourages the local support group meetings at Bridgeton Hospital on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Dr. Iqbal was very clear about the risks of the surgery
as well as the risks of not following the new eating habits and do and don'ts of the food world. I rate Dr. N. Iqbal very highly and would recommend him to anyone in a heart beat. I believe in his surgical competence and I appreciated his bedside manner. Some people may not care for his bedside manner as much as I do because he is a plain english
kind of doctor. He does not put a flowery spin on what he has to say. Don't expect to be talked to like a princess or a child. Dr. Iqbal tells it the way it is. I like that, this is my body and together were took charge.

I met with Dr. Iqbal on for the first
time on Sept. 24, 2002.
I liked him intially because of professionalism
and knowledge of
surgery. He seemed so competent and I felt
assurded. As most specialists I was the one
who needed to ask questions...
His office staff are patience, and willing
to explain if one
does not understand the many pre-opt
procedures.
He was honest about the follow up,
support groups
and the dramatic change in ones diet.
Plus, the weight loss and risks of the
surgery.
To me surgical competence far out weighs,
bedside manners.
Bedside manner is nice, but I am not
marrying the surgeon.
If they have both that is wonderful, too.
