I had an initial consult w Dr Aslam in November. My first impressions are that he and his staff take very good care of their patients. Actually it was a 2 hour educational session w his nurse...he popped in for a few minutes to briefly meet his prospective new patients and to exchange a few words/ideas.
I have only requested a psyche consult and sent in the form for that, nothing else yet.
I am dragging my feet.....
One thing is he requires his patients to have a feeding tube in place for 4-6 weeks post op - My body has a lot of sensitivities and allergies, a major one to latex - the least intervention the better - so this aspect of post-op really stops me.

I met Dr. Aslam today 1/22/03 when I first saw him he reminded me of my brother-in-law. He was very business like but he was also very personable. He was very thorough in his exam as well as informing my husband and I that this was not a miracle cure but a life change, pointing out that intake of food HAS to change (DECREASE) and activity HAS to (INCREASE). The office staff is awesome they are so caring and understanding.

Oct. 24, 2002 My first visit with Dr. Aslam was very brief. He came in at the end of the consultation vistit. I was very impressed with how well he explained everything to us all.
Jan. 3, 2003 I met with Dr. Aslam again today as a final consult before surgery. He was very concerned that I was okay with how fast things were moving. My husband asked most of the questions and was very happy with his responses. Dr. Aslam is extremely knowledgable in this surgery and wants to make every effort possible to make sure everything goes well. He was very honest with the pros and the cons. I am completely confident in his abilities.

My first consult was on 11/30. I was impressed w/ the information that was given to us. We even had a quiz, to make sure we understood what we had been told. They didn't pull any punches, they let us know the good, bad and ugly of the surgery. Dr. Aslam can in and talked to us for a short time. He seems to be the type of doctor that is all business, which is what I want considering what he is going to do to me. Because I had already had my tests done Dr. Aslam examed me after the meeting and he said that he thinks that he will be able to do a lap on me . :-D I am going to see him again on 12/17. I am going to try to lose some more weight before then. They did tell me that because I live more than an hour away I will have to stay in Augusta for a week after surgery, just to be safe. That is aways from home but it made me realize how serious Dr. Aslam is about after care. I can't believe that things are really happening . It seems like I have been waiting so long. But it just goes to show you if you hang in there long enough things will work out! The only thing I personnally wasn't impressed w/ was the hospital. I went to have blood taken and it took them 48 min. Then I went upstairs to see a patient and it was hard to find someone who worked there to ask a question.

My first appointment I was nervous and felt like getting up and leaving. They emphasized the importance of knowing the risks and at no time tried to convince anyone of having the surgery done. At first I found this strange but as I researched more I was grateful and realized they weren't trying to "sell" their service but to benefit each person and let them decide for their own. Everyone I've had contact with were extremely nice and helpful too.
