My first impression of Dr. Roll was that he was an extremely competent physician/surgeon and seemed to have an approachable demeanor. In other words, you could more or less talk to him about anything and he was more than happy to answer all of your questions. Before my initial consultation, I had already found out about his training and education and was pretty confident about his skill level in performing this procedure. But after meeting with him, I liked his matter of fact personality and fatherly way. In addition, his staff is wonderful -- Barbara, Anita and nutritionist Linda are very warm and down to earth people who make you feel comfortable from the beginning. Barbara actually took my information and had me approved by my insurance four weeks before my initial consultation! I definitely rate Dr. Roll and his staff as superior.

I found out about Dr. Roll from my father he had the operation done jan 2002 and he has done very well. So he took me to go see Dr. Roll and he was a very nice man. Very direct and no strings. Which I liked. He explained the operation to me. He also had a folder with everything in it and ready to go. He gave me a hold lot of information about the operation. Also he gave me websites to go to. He's staff is wonderfull and very inviting:).

Had my first appt with Dr. Roll and loved him from the beginning. Was very comfortable and relaxed. Have nothing bad to say. He was thorough about the surgery and kept reminding me that he is giving me a tool to work with.
His staff is great. Barbara had me approved with my primary and secondary insurance in maybe 2 days if not less. Dr. Roll emphasized aftercare and how much you have to be serious with everything. I would rate Dr. Roll as a 9.

Haven't met Dr. Roll yet. My consult is scheduled for July 18, 2003.
July 19, 2003: My consultation with Dr. Roll went very well. I felt well prepared for having used ObesityHelp.com to research WLS and we had a very efficient conversation. Dr. Roll appears to be very competent and is a straight shooter with information. His info pack is thorough and clearly presented. While some might find his demeanor less than warm, I found him to be confident and direct. He gives you the facts - good and bad - and make sure you understand what you're getting into. He answered all of my questions with patience and kindness, and he seemed genuinely concerned about making sure I understood everything. He is very clear about his expectations and requirements, e.g. no smokers, commitment to nutrition counseling, pre- and post-op care, and behavior modification. He also mentioned that he would contact my PCP to let her know about our visit. I think that's great since my PCP needs to be part of the team, too. Overall, I rate Dr. Roll at an 8.

Dr. Roll is pretty good with bedside manner. He has a sense of humor about him, but knows when it's time to be serious. He took a much greater interest in me and my issues as well as my family history that the other surgeon that I had seen before him. His office staff are superb. Barbara is great! When I called to make my appointment and told her that I had seen another surgeon already, she actually knew who I had probably seen and said that they get a lot of his patients. She is very friendly and doesn't mind me calling about once a week to see if there has been any correspondance with my insurance company. The only negative thing that I can say about Dr. Roll is that he can come across a little harsh at times, but in something like this I personally need someone to be very strict with me and tell me like it is. Dr. Roll is the most strict about his aftercare. He emphasizes that you will never eat like a normal person again...and it's true. He insisted that I meet with the nutritionalist at least 2 times before my surgery and at least once after. He also keeps his patients on a pureed (or as Linda the nutrionalist called it "moist and mushy") "menu" for 7 weeks after surgery. Dr. Roll was very good in addressing most all of the more common complications that can arise after surgery and assured me that he will do everything in his power to prevent them, but unfortunately some of them cannot be prevented. Overall, I think Dr. Roll was the right choice for me and I would rate him an 8 overall.

Met w/ Dr Roll on 15 Apr 03 after an extensive Internet search, (yes my taxes were already done!). Very direct and to the point, but I like that. I had a list of over 100 questions, but he answered most of them during his 20 minute presentation. He gave me all the time I wanted to ask my remaining questions and ensured I understood the answers. He exudes confidence and has had no deaths/major complications. I don't believe in luck, so I feel very good about my choice here. HI had my beautiful wife with me during the initial consult and she was equally pleased with Dr. Roll. I would recommend you bring your spouse to these consults as they have a lot of questions and so you can both hear the same things - you will not remember everything.
Barbara, his chief Ass't was excellent and handled all the paperwork. Anita also provides support and is great as well - excellent Team. Very easy process so far.

My first impression of Dr. Roll was a great one. He doesn't skip around the bush he tells you like it is and I like that. Barbara who runs his ofc is the best person I have ever met. She got me approved the second day and I was scheduled for surgery the same day as my consult. She helped me up my surgery date since the company I am working for was changing our insurance and she wanted (well I WANTED) to get in before my ins changed. SHE IS GREAT!!! Dr. Roll is very informative and is very hands on in your aftercare, he wants you to be thinner for health reasons NOT for outer appearances. He does address all the risks involved in the surgery and lets you know from the beginning everything that you wonder about before you go in there, I had so many questions and I never asked ONE of them. His bedside manner is alittle different then most, he doesn't play around with your health cause he knows that your health is important and the priority in this surgery. I would recommend him to anyone, AND I HAVE :o)

Dr Roll has been very nice and cordial. His explanation of the surgery was very thorough and succinct. He came across as a very confident surgeon. The staff at Dr Roll's office, Barbara and Anita, could not have been any nicer! The atmosphere in the office is calm and while watching them work, I observed a very organized staff, repectfulness of patients and their issues and genuine interest shown in each person they dealt with while I was there.
Any person going to visit Dr Roll should expect a very concise presentation from the Doctor and be prepared with questions and concerns. The Doctor emphasized that the surgery is a "tool" and we are now a "team" - so, our relationship is just beginning with surgery... be prepared for the long haul! The aftercare of the surgery and my participation in that care will ensure my success. He does have a structured aftercare program including office visits and nutrition advice.
I would highly recommend this practice. I "shopped" around for a surgeon and took many things into consideration (ie. surgeon, personality, staff...) And, this practice rated the highest and gave me the most confident feeling.
