Barix Clinics (NW Suburban Com. Hospital) Hospital
This hospital is excellent post surgery. Like most medical institutions they are usually busy and you have to be ready to stick up for your needs. The hospital was clean. Not the most modern facility, but is more than adequate. Qualified help is never too far away at BTC. Many staff members have also had WLS and they are able to understand and provide advice. There were times when I found some staff weren't completely aware of my situation and I had to tell them. They are excellent, but you may have to question them...make them explain what they are doing if you are not sure. For example, I was re-admitted with a complication 2 weeks after surgery and more than one nurse came in my room and started asking questions about pain levels as if I had just had surgery yesterday. One nurse was going to give me a respiratory treatment. Often a new nurse would come in and ask me why I was back. I assumed they should know that before they entered my room. They are maybe a little too busy. Overall...the nurses and staff are excellent and I would recommend this hospital to anyone. Everyone involved cares and seems dedicated to helping you recover and start losing weight.
You don't feel out of place or like a sideshow because everyone is there for the same thing that you are. The support atmosphere there is great patients & staff encourage and support other patients. I can't say enough good things about the nurses there, although they seem understaffed. On Saturday they were very busy. I had to move my neighbors urine hat numorous times during the day so I could go to the bathroom. (yech, gross!). I also had to wait for my IV to be fixed everytime it started beeping. I also had to wait for other things that day - it was a very bad day. I don't blame the nurses they were just terribly short-handed that day. I have to say a sincere Thank You to the nurse named Ellenor she was absolutely fantastic and really helped me by providing me with a lot of valuable post-op tips and information. First day surgery patients are placed with second or third day post-op patients. This really helps because you can see how much better you are going to be feeling in just a day or two and you know what is coming up for you. This hospital was GREAT!! I am so glad that I had my operation done here - they have an excellent success record also.
