Rush Presbyterian St Luke Medical Center Hospital

I have spent a lot of time here since my sugery, the nurses are awesome and really care. They always ask how everything has been going since my last visit, they ask about my classes at school. The residents are awesome will answer any questions. I was greeted by then in triage a few times before even getting to the back they have a game plan in place and tell you everything, by the time I got back to a bed my admission orders were in the computer and was up to a room in less than 2 hours. I have never had a problem with them at all! I have had 7 surgeries here and it has been a good experience every time!

Quiet - as with any hospital, people are in and out all of the time but with Rush being a teaching hospital, you have many more people coming and going.
Parking - buy parking coupons from the front security desk so that you only pay 4.00 - they don't tell you this and if you don't have them, you can pay upwards of 20.00 for parking.

I do think the nurses are very understaffed -- but that's a fact everywhere it seems. Since it is a teaching hospital you see a lot of different residents, etc., so you kind of have to stay on top of things and make sure everyone is on the same page. All the nurses were fantastic, but one either didn't know how to help me sit up or was afraid of hurting herself and consquently I hurt myself right after surgery. I've been in a lot of pain since.

As are many hospitals, it was way understaffed. Sometimes it took hours for a nurse to respond to a nursing page. The overnight nurse that I had was wonderfully caring, competent, & responsive. The daytime nurse was nice, but not very efficient/competent (i.e. didn't know how to properly set up the IV drip). The evening shift nurse was absolutely positively rude. She did not make any attempt to help me out of bed after my gastric bypass, and expected me to lift myself up with no guidance or assistance just one day after surgery. She also ignored my plees for pain control. One female med resident was wonderful, two male medical residents were obviously new and inexperienced as well as unprofessional in their bedside conduct. The worst part of the experience was that I didn't sleep for the entire 3 days at the hospital because of the terrible amount of noise, and I was left downstairs in radiology with my PCA pump disconnected & no pain meds for 6 hours waiting to have a barium swallow completed-nobody offered to help me as I laid there crying in pain for the 3 hours before I was taken in for the screening, and for the 3 hours after that I was down there waiting to be transported back up to my room. The person that helped me the most was a nursing aid/assisstant named Reggie who taught me how to roll over and get myself out of bed without tearing my abdominal muscles apart. He was wonderful. Also, someone in the patient assistance/billing department helped me to qualify for assistance due to my very low income.

This hospital left me hanging! The night brfor surgery, I get a call they won,t take public aid no more, after I put in a year and all my test then they call at the last minute. This hospital is so unfair. This hospital is so un careing to the fact that I,v been approved. I patricia Holt deserved better than what this hospital did to me.

The hospital is massive, but so incredibly organized. You need never get lost. Signage and personnel are very informative. There are over 33 operating rooms and although the pace is fast and hectic, once the patient gets in there, everything runs smoothly and all personnel seem to know their parts and jobs. This gives the patient great peace of mind as they go under the anesthesia!
