Rush Presbyterian St Luke Medical Center Hospital

It is a truly amazing place to visit. The grounds strech for several city blocks, the hallways seem neverending, getting from one pre-op to another then back to your car can take a compass, a map and a homing device. It is very impressive. To date, every staff person I have met with - be it a surgeon or a lab tech or an admissions processor - has been helpful, comforting and polite.

I have had to see several doctors in this hospital and I can not find ONE comlaint in any of them. Even down to the admitting and registration personel. They all are understanding, caring, and informative. When you or a loved one goes into a hospital, regardless the severity or inconsequential reason, you expect to be informed and feel as if you are in good hands. At Rush University Medical Center they go far and beyond their job description. They are just wonderful people.

The admission process was very efficient and quick. Before I knew it I was in the holding area, and getting my IV, and then on to the OR. My surgery went extremely well. I dont recall the recovery room at all - I awoke in the ICU with my Husband and family around me, which was wonderful. The ICU and nursing staff was outstanding. I had to stay in the anesthesia holding area for several hours until they found a room for me - that was agrivating as they couldnt get my paperwork processed and couldnt get me to a room for 6 hours. Once I got into my room, everything was fine (except the room was way too hot). They did get me a fan. The staff was very good to me, and took really good care of me. They were very caring and considerate of my health and comfort. The cleaning crew needed to be more careful when cleaning the room. There was refuse on the floor, that was not picked up daily. The discharge process was very quick too. Overall my stay at Rush was good. Some things could have been better, some things were wonderful.

The Hospital has valet parking for $6.00 if you are handicapped or a senior. This is for the entire day. I felt that it was as clean, if not more so than others and tried their best to manage the pain. I cannot say much about the pain, as I was on ice chips or pureed foods. I was also in the rehab and I think it is a wonderful place doing a lot of good work.I would return there in a minute.

In general the hospital was great. My bathroom wasnt really kept clean, and I saw a nurse spill (my)urine on the floor, and never had anyone clean it up. Granted it was not a huge amount, but I felt it should have been cleaned. I passed my leak test on Tues. afternoon, and was given juice and broth. That is the only tray I received while I was there. No dinner, breakfast or lunch tray before I checked out at 12 the next day. However the nursing staff is very great, and the PCTs were all very good too.
