Thanks everyone for the advice.  I am still on the fence and am doing research but I do appreciate all of the opinions, information, and experiences!

I believe the widest variety of people you read/listen to the better. and for anyone who says "just listen to your doctor" I'd like to point out MY doctor - someone I trusted at the time but no longer live near - said she thought I should have the gastric band.

after a lot of reading online I knew more about it than she did - bottom line. and nobody has even mentioned the DS, have you looked into that? few surgeons do it, so if yours doesn't they won't recommend it.

so keep asking questions and reading and talking to people!

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Revised: the widest variety of appropriately-educated/trained people who have reliable scientific data to back up their conclusions you read/listen to, the better.

I know what you are saying and consider the source, for sure.

but I found a lot of value in listening to people's experience. when I first came to this site - and it's no longer my home on the internet but it was for YEARS - I went on all the surgery forums to read and post.

for a pre-op I would say, note how far out people are. if everyone telling you something is less than 2 or 3 years out, you need to expand the field.

the experiences of all those lap band people who told me they could get carbs down easy but got "stuck" on protein and vegetables was valuable to me for sure.

a couple of things to keep in mind:  if you have Rny you can never take NSAIDS, you lose your pyloric valve, and the malaborption of calories is temporary while the malabsorptions of nutrients is forever.

I recommend everyone trying to decide what surgery to get read the revision forum - looks at who is getting a second surgery and why.

good luck!

FYI mom of pets....the recommendation is for no NSAIDS for any WLS.

Also - you cant just look at the revision board and make assumptions re which surgery is experiencing more revisions - there are far more RNY surgeries performed then DS and VSG combined - so naturally you will find more examples of RNY dissatisfaction

I sure dont understand why people comment on other surgeries that they have not personally experienced.  I find it a real **** off.

Thank you Birdiegirl - the NSAIDs are ok for everyone other than RNY is old news.  According to the ASMBS, a lot of surgeons don't recommend them for use after VSG either.

Personally, I wouldn't be chugging them down every day if I had never had WLS ...

Old news according to....??  I don't see anything new saying either NSAIDs are OK with RNY, or forbidden with sleeve according to ambs, and if someone has something more up to date I wish they'd share it.

NSAIDs aren't great for anyone, even a normie, but the AMBS still puts RNY in another category regarding them.

RNY with the blind stomach is just not the same as sleeve or DS or a normie.

Q: Which medications should I avoid after weight loss surgery?
A: Your surgeon or bariatric physician can offer guidance on this topic. One clear class of medications to avoid after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is the “Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs” (NSAIDs), which can cause ulcers or stomach irritation in anyone but are especially linked to a kind of ulcer called “marginal ulcer” after gastric bypass. Marginal ulcers can bleed or perforate. Usually they are not fatal, but they can cause a lot of months or years of misery, and are a common cause of re-operation, and even (rarely) reversal of gastric bypass.
Some surgeons advise limiting the use of NSAIDs after sleeve gastrectomy and adjustable gastric banding as well.
