Well its official, I'm a dumper

So I made it 8 months without dumping. Last week I felt terrible after my 2 small protein pancakes with sugar free syrup (I put peanut butter in them). I've eaten this once a week since my surgery last December. I had it in the back of my mind that it may have been dumping (high-ish carbs and I try for like 30g except on pancake day).

Last night at about 10:30pm I grabbed 2 swedish berries (Again, something I see nothing wrong with when I've just got home from a grueling soccer game, a bag no, but 2... meh, I'm human). I thought I'd die. Dry heaves, heart racing etc etc.

Anyone a delayed dumper? Does it take 8 months to develop that? I am avoiding sugar well, forever now. I was kind of bummed I wasn't a dumper... and now, I never want to look at sugar again. So that works.

welcome to the club. it sucks. I dumped in my first 2 months (on my protein shake) never since. I suspect it may have been sugar on an empty stomach that did it to you. eg if you have it with protein it may be ok.

I have had a cookie but never on an empty stomach. Regardless. sugar I generally limit to a taste and on a rare occasion.

Swedish berries I know them well.... a relative of the gummy bear---- pure HFCS .... makes me sick now and I did not get surgery yet.... take care..and yes you are human and humans do enjoy the odd indulgence. Don't beat yourself up over it. I have a friend who cannot have beef... so it happens on non carbs too!

I'm sorry ... and now somewhat scared. I am 5 months out and have not had the pleasure - thought I might be past it. If I eat a spoonful too much or something just doesn't sit right I feel discomfort for about half an hour and it leaves. I haven't had any sugar yet and keep it below 5 grams. I guess that rules our wine gums - lol.

Feel better.

Funny how "not dumping" can be disappointing. Sorry you did not feel well but personally, I was hoping for a physical reminder of why sugar was evil. Lol. Now you know.

Same. I've avoided anything sugary since surgery.

1, because I want to get to goal as fast as I can, but also

2. I'm pretty positive that I won't be a dumper, and I don't want confirmation of that hahahha

could it be reactive hypogylcemia instead of dumping? read these two links. i've been dealing with RH since about 10 months post op. i cannot eat any carbs unless it comes from a fruit or vegetable or my sugars crash 1.5-2 hours after eating.

I have symptoms of RH, however it first happened 2 years post op....twice. Honey garlic was my favourite anything, but no longer. Since I had never experienced it preop, it is safe to say I am a dumper. Symptoms:

Heart palpatations

Excessive sweating

confusion

fear

feel like fainting

I now stay away from sugar.....far, far away.

I am 2 years from surgery...i still dump!!

i hate to post this but Sometimes when i have a piece of chocolate or any sugary item literally 1 piece especially on a somewhat empty stomach i feel the dumping feeling; shaky, sweaty, heart racing and yes sometimes i must throw up.

Even after 2 years certain foods does not agree with me even if i have had the same exact food several times before and nothing.

I'm a dumper too with no rhyme or reason as to immediate or delayed and i've experienced them both... but a secret part of me likes being a dumper because i HATE the feeling and i will think twice about eating anything sweet or grossly fatty because of it!
