My story isn't that unique. I come from a line of compulsive overeaters and early deaths from MO. I have struggled for years with it. I am 33 and feel that my life is halted. I have several comorbidities. I also suffer from chronic Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis, which is much like Rheumatoid. The doctors tell me this will not magicall go away with weight loss, but life will be easier to live with less stress on the joints.
I have wanted RNY for years. I have jumped through multiple hoops over the years, but always there was a roadblock whether it was no coverage, job loss or something of that nature. I began to think there was a reason I was always stopped. A few months ago, I seriously began researching LabBand as an option. I liked what I read. I was never 100% comfortable with the idea of reworking my plumbing, but the idea of a chastity belt around my every hungry tummy was extremely enticing.
I am going to attend a seminar on 8/06/07 for St. Vincent's Charity Hospital in Clevelan, OH. I am a full time college student--I decided to take control of my destiny 3 years ago and pursue my dream job in weather forecasting, and I still have 3 years to go!!
Also, with the cost difference and my being self pay, I am working with loans to fund my surgery. I think this is the right decision for me.
