Topic: Hi Everyone

I’m new to this forum. I had my RYN April 15, 2010 and have been lurking on the OH forums (April 2010, Lightweights, and RYN) for about three weeks. The information gleaned has been invaluable.  Anyway I figure it’s about time I introduce myself.

I grew up a skinny kid at least that’s what my family tells me, I was probably average.  I didn’t start gaining weight until I was 18 years of age. I’ve been overweight all of my adult life.

I finally decided to do the RYN after I met a lady who was my height and half my weight.  Finally I could see a path to better health and longevity.  Fortunately I’ve been very healthy but my family has a strong history of heart disease and diabetes. This surgery greatly reduces my risk.

I'm 6 weeks out and able to have small amounts of starches and my nut recommends eating it with your protien. I've had tricuits, wheat thins, 1/4 whole wheat bun, pita, low carb whole wheat tortilla, I haven't had any issues with food going down. My nut feels that you should be balanced never go without something just don't eat junk NO whites , no white rice, white bread, white pasta etc oh yeah I have tried whole wheat pasta had protien pasta w/ meat for spagetti I just have to meet my protien needs everyday

Chrissy, I read your post and needed to think about it a little bit! I think that I fear being noticed and getting attention when I much prefer to be a background kind of person. I don't have trouble with relationships so I don't have that kind of fear. I'm glad to hear you are in counseling- that has helped me with lots of stuff in the past! Perhaps your counselor will help you develop a plan for learning how to have relationships/people interactions that don't feel so threatening. Take care and keep up the good work! So glad to hear that your incision is getting smaller.

Michelle,
How long were you on full liquids and how long have you been on pureed?  When do you get to move to soft foods?

I am 4 weeks out and on the soft foods stage.  I cannot have bread, yet.  And really have not wanted it.  I love the smell of toast.  Never paid much attention to it before surgery, but since surgery.  I love the smell.

Hi Michelle!

I'm still on pureed stage and haven't been cleared to eat bread or crackers yet. However, I can eat 1/2 cup of pureed starch if I meet my protein goal for the day; I only did it a few times and since I was full with the protein, I didn't have any starch. I am growing bored of the pureed foods and can't wait to have more consistency in my menu!

Topic: RE: Who's your biggest cheerleader/critic?

Well, I have to say that I am my biggest Cheerleader because my family (with the exception of my husband and children) were not very supportive of my decision for fear that I was trading one condition for another.  However, my husband is the best support I could ever have asked for. He is wonderful and I am so blessed for having him in my life.
I'm not sure if I have any critics...what I have is a sister-in-law that constantly "reminds" me that I will have all that extra skin on my arms, legs, belly and that I will most likely need plastic surgery in the near future.  She also loves to tempt me with food when she is eating something yummy just to see if I will give in to the temptation. She's a **tch! LOL

I'll be six weeks out tomorrow and I'm consuming usually 550-750 calories per day.  I try to eat six small meals (as instructed by doc).  All meals are protein based.  Every morning I start with an Unjury and milk shake.  The rest of the day I get all my protein from food.  If I find I want to eat something without protein I supplement with a protein drink at the end of the day.  Oh, and I do count my protein shakes and drinks as a meal.
However, I have only lost 7 pounds in the past three weeks so I might not be the right one to ask.

My NUT said I could have crackers (reduced fat), toast, and of course beans for carbs.  Toast is ok, crackers yummm, especially reduced fat ritz.  I have even had a low carb tortilla when I made enchiladas one night, but same as everyone else, protein first.
I have started a blog all of my own for this journey.  Please follow me at www.digitalsheep.org.
