I agree with the others as well. I started at 287 and at 11 weeks out have lost 42 pounds. Yes I would like to have lost more, but just as Carol said, my Dr. says those who don't have as much to lose, lose it a little slower. He thinks I'm doing very well, and I haven't lost as much as you ! And yes, if it's a good protein week for me, the weight loss is better. And yes, there are week that no matter what I do, the weight doesn't budge. You keep your head up, you've been through the hard part already, your doctor only wants the best for you, but you may have to tell him to back off the pressure. Suzanne

Wow only 150 calories a day ! I'm worried for you. I'm about 11 weeks out and am eating much more than I thought I would be able to. You can't really compare yourself to me, because everyone is different, but I must always eat protein in the morning or I just don't feel right all day and cannot eat much without a nauseous feeling. I'm not an egg person, but found that 1 scrambled egg in the morning, which I sometimes have to force myseklf to eat (I Hate eggs) can make all the difference in my day. Funny, but I can't do protein shakes at all. I agree that you should speak to a nutritionist familiar with this surgury. Although miserable at first, when I started eating, not drinking, protein, my life turned around. Suzanne

Topic: RE: Vomiting Issues
I, too, take my larger vitamins at night, but I had the same issues during my pregnancies. The morning just didn't work for me. I have not had much vomiting unless I induce it myself. There were many many times I still took too large a bite, and having never been one to throw up much, I would suffer with it for the next hour, hurting, mouth watering, deep breathing through it... But right or wrong I found that if I get "that feeling", I go throw it up, feel better within a minute and start over. When I was at my worst I stuck to soup. I did have to realize that the denser the food, the smaller bite I have to take. It's like trial and error. And I cannot do bread and pasta, they seem to expand. One of my best tips and tricks is that the food I eat must be moist. That might mean broth, gravy, or if worst comes to worst ketchup. Even now, a piece of dry anything turns me away. Good Luck, Suzanne

I don't know how much protein powder you put in it but it sounds like you're getting many more carbs than protein in your shake. You need to be eating protein sources, meat, eggs, cheese, etc. You're only getting 90-150 calories a day?? I don't see how that's possible. How many time per day do you eat? What are you eating besides the shake?? You really are in starvation mode. Have you talked with your surgeon or dietitian? Connie

Topic: RE: pouch
You can stretch your pouch by eating to much. Your pouch will stretch a little on it's own but if you are over eating you will stretch it yourself. Be careful not to eat to much ... that is why we had the surgery to begin with!

I have the same issue if I'm not getting enough protein. Try drinking a protein drink early in the day, and switch the vitamins till night. That fixed the issue for me. Hope it helps!

Topic: Vomiting Issues
I just would like to know if any of you are having vomiting problems. I am 10 weeks out and still lose at least one meal a day ... somedays nothing will stay in my pouch. I have learned to eat slowly and chew all food well but am still having problems. Any suggestions out there?

I have been making a protein shake that I can tolerate at ten wks out (down 49 lbs and nothing in the last 3-4 weeks ) anyways, I need to know how wrong I am with drinking this. Heres the ingredients 1 banana, 5 fresh strawberries, 6 ounce unsweet pineapple juice, designer whey protien powder natural flavor, 2 cups crushed ice. Blended in blender and remainder frozen for later. Someone told me that this was bad because of the carbs in the fruit and juice. I dont do milk well and with only getting 90-150 calories a day, I was hoping this protein shake would help me. I havent lost in weeks and I simply cant eat that much. A few bites and Im done. I know my body is in starvation but I dont know how to get it out and get more calories. I dont throw up or anything like that, I simply can not eat that much. AT this rate I am scared I wont lose any more weight for a while. Send some advice my way Please!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the others...you're dr. is being insensitive. If he's trying to encourage you, he's going about it the wrong way. I started about 268 and at 2 months I was at 31 lbs. The smaller you are to start the harder it can be. Yes, we all could probably work at little harder at the exercise....some days I do better than others. I would say follow his more important medical advice but eventually you won't have to deal with him. Firmly let him know you're doing your best and according to your online support group you are average. That's it and try not to let him bother you. Good luck and keep up the good work.

I am going to be 11 weeks out tomorrow. I only weigh on my weekly day (which happens to be Thursday), so I have no idea yet how much I've lost this week. I can tell you, though, that I had lost 46 pounds by my 10-week mark. I was 41 pounds down at my two-month mark. You and I started at about the same weight (I was 320). Everyone tells me that my loss is very good and that I'm doing great. That includes my surgeon and his entire staff. I can't believe that your surgen is acting so horrible and "insisting that you weigh XXX by XXX amount of time or else." I have never heard of a more insenstive doctor. Everyone loses at their own rate and sometimes the loss doesn't come off as quickly as anyone expected, even if you are following every rule to the letter. Please don't let this man discourage you. You are doing wonderfully. Keep up the good work and give him a piece of your mind if he says anything rude to you! Hugs, ~Kristy (lap rny 9/18/03 - 320/274/168)
