Topic: Home and recovering from surgery
Hi All! I haven't been online much the last few days. On November 24th I had my tummy tuck and breast lift. The surgery went well. I knew I had one hernia, but my surgeon found a "bulge" about the size of a grapefruit cut in half. So, instead of just having the extra skin removed, he ended up having to go into the muscle and tighten things up and reinforce it with mesh. The first few days I wondered why I put myself through the pain, but when the pain improved, I was very happy to have it all done. I did also have a breast lift. I am TOTALLY happy with that. Ok, I admit it, I've never been this perky. I was scared going into this, but now I'm happy I did. I'm now looking forward to the swelling and bruising to go down and see the final results. After being overweight all my life, to finally be a "normal" size is a new and wonderful feeling. I am thinking of taking dancing lessons now, something I've always wanted to do. It's also good excercise and I'm hoping it will help tighten up my legs. I feel like a new woman! Shelley

Topic: RE: One year out with one small problem
Mark is right. Having a hernia does help with the insurance approval. Otherwise it's not a big deal. I guess I've had one for years that I didn't even know about until I lost the weight. Actually, be thankful for it. Many people pray they get a hernia so insurance covers the plastic surgery. Good luck! Shelley

Topic: 1 year labs
All and all my one year check up was pretty good. I have lost a total of 169 lbs in 12 months going from a size 24 to a 5. My labs looked pretty good with the exception of my iron which was very low. I have to double up my intake and retest in 1 month. Melissa

Topic: RE: Plastic Surgery
Laurie, I am happy to give you info about the surgery in Costa Rica! Sorry I did not respond sooner, I was away from a computer for a few days. The surgery I had was an extended tummy tuck with muscle repair and a breast lift with augmentation(implants). My total cost was $5400.00 with Dr. Macaya in Costa Rica. There is a great message board on MSN that is exclusivly about plastic surgery abroad, here is a link: http://groups.msn.com/cosmeticsurgeryabroad Please take a moment to join, there is a wealth of information on the Costa Rica tab & the General tab. I would never have done the surgery without this website. As surgeons in Costa Rica are not allowed to post pictures or email pictures of past surgery patients, this website has pictures from the different doctors. Mine are not posted as of yet, but I will get to it sooner or later! SO far I am very happy with my results. I know that I am very swollen still. I am wearing a compression garmet to aid with the swelling. I am able to wear my size 4 jeans already. I don't know if I will go down a size in clothes or not. I went to Costa Rica with a friend, she helped take care of me after surgery, we stayed at a ced and breakfast called the Hemingway Inn. Another option is to stay at a recovery retreat, they run about $75/day and include all of your meals. Please feel free to email me with more questions if you have them. Priscilla

Topic: Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving!
I was actually worried this was going to be my first Thanksgiving after having WLS and the first Thanksgiving that I had spent with ALL my family in 11 years. I was afraid everyone would be watching to see what I did or did not eat. I was also afraid of gaining weight from all the wonderful food too. But the worrying was needless. I sampled a few different foods and had no desire for any desserts and we went to downtown Indianapolis to watch the lighting of the giant Christmas tree. We walked alot and when we finally got back home I weighed myself today and I had lost another 2 lbs! Not bad if I do say so myself! I am now the smallest compared to all my brothers and sisters and that is weird. I have always been the biggest. Some of my family said I needed to gain a little weight but I don't think so. I am 5' 2 and now 127 lbs. I am aiming for 122 lbs before possible plastic surgery for tummy tuck and having my arms done. I feel really good and no one has given me a hard time about how little I eat of what I don't eat. My mom is so proud of me, she said she could never do it but that I looked great and that I seemed so much happier and looked healthier.
