Hi, i'm checking in too! Things have been going well for me. Something I didn't tell alot of people was after Maggie died in the car accident last year, I developed eating disorder problems. I have gotten that stabilized, and definately on it's way out of the picture. I have been working with a therapist on eating issues and grief combined, and am relearning alot about eating and moods. Going to her is like lessons on how to use my mind better.

So I was almost 300 pounds preop, and got down to 145. I have gained back too much, but not nearly all. I am back on the road to where I want to be.

Topic: Just checking in

Feels like forever since I've been on the boards. Life is so busy these days. I am 19 months out from my RNY. I am also 3 months post partum. Noah Andrew is just a complete joy. He has truly been the miracle baby we thought we'd never have. I have stabilized out on my weight loss and am officially down 103 pounds since my surgery. The weight just fell off after having the baby (never experienced that with my first two pregnancies) and it was great.

I'm working tons, lots of unexpected bills (isn't life grand?). My family is recovering after losing my sister in May. And I'm ready for school to start in a few weeks. My oldest will be a 5th grader this year (impossible to believe).

Hope life is going well for you all. I look forward to seeing some of you at the OH Convention in Cinci in August.

Surprise MIRACLE baby boy, Noah Andrew, born March 24, 2010

Hi Peggy,
I know exactly what you mean about battling keeping the weight off and even gaining. I have gained as much as 35 pounds and had to reloose it....it always seems to come back on though. It never ends! But, yes, I agree, life is so much better now! It was good to hear from you. God bless!

 Hi Cindy,

So glad to see your post.  I was just thinking about you a couple of weeks ago.  Congratulations on your grandbaby.  She looks like a sweetie.  I am thrilled for you that you are a healthy grandma who can enjoy her and be around to watch her grow.

I have struggled over the last year or so with gaining about 20 lbs.  Went back to school and to much snacking while studying.  I need to get motivated to get more active and get this off.  Just can't stay motivated long enough to lose consistently.  Regardless, I still feel much better and am much healthier.

Again, good to hear from you.  God's blessings to you.

I saw Dr Stote at St V.  I had read so many comments about how odd and unfriendly he was it scared me and I was so nervous going in.  So, I have to speak up; Dr Stote was very, very kind and I found him to be a delightful, sweet and caring doctor!

What will usually put a lock on Medicare/Medicaid coverage is making  sure the surgery is medically necessary.  If you are getting lots of fungus infections, cellulitis, having hygiene problems because of the loose skin, it will usually get paid for.

I'm on Medicare and Indiana Medicaid due to being on disability.

Make sure you document treatment of the fungus infections, cellulitis, rtc., even if you just buy OTC ointments.

I also have a dermatologist I saw for other issues, who has treated my cellulitis attacks and fungus infections.

Topic: Bariatric Life Coach

It’s now been 2 years and 8 months since my gastric bypass surgery. I’ve shared many stories to date about my personal journey, my struggles, my successes and the passion I have for bariatrics.

Life after weight loss surgery is an amazing individual journey. Not only do we experience physical transformations but many of us find that our needs and goals have shifted directions.

My goals included losing weight and living a happy, healthier life but I also had a deep desire to live a more balanced life, gain additional self-awareness and continue to be successful.

I have been a huge advocate for fighting obesity within my community and I love giving back and supporting other patients. I realized that part of working my recovery (of being a food addict) is not only supporting other patients but getting support for myself. I am a patient first so I need direction/guidance and accountability. I’m one who loves to learn and grow and I’m always reading and researching anything that has to do with weight loss surgery. I always follow up with my surgeon, keep in touch with my dietitians and attend support groups whenever possible.

I discovered there is another resource available to me for that extra one on one support I personally need. I had made an important investment in my future and it was time to make an investment in my success.

Just like an athlete who needs a coach to improve performance I was compelled to have someone help me set some clear goals and take the steps necessary to find success. I decided to hire a “Life CoachÂ" to work with me throughout my personal weight loss journey.

During my initial thoughts of hiring a bariatric life coach I contemplated the idea because I felt like investing time and money into me along with my recovery was selfish. How could I justify that when I have a family and home to take care of?

Then the light bulb came on! The question I asked myself was how could I NOT make an investment? This is about my health, my recovery and taking care of number one which is ME! If I don’t take care of myself how can I take care of others?

Coaching is a valuable tool and took me from wanting something to actually achieving it and seeing my goals through completion. Having a life coach has given me an extra level of support and has taken me to the next stage of working my recovery.

I’m very excited about this new stage in my life because I now have the opportunity to give back to the bariatric community on the next level.

I am now a certified life coach who specializes in supporting bariatric patients and will have the opportunity to give back to the bariatric patients and community with personal intensity. I have received the specialized training/education and walked the weight loss surgery path.

We all need to take a moment and reflect on why we chose this journey along with where we want to go, who we want to be and how we will get there.

We deserve to live a happy, healthy life!

I enjoyed meeting you Peggy and good to see you again KerryJean. I love both pairs of shorts I got at the clothing exchange, and love having all those clothes out of my bedroom!  Lets do this again!
