To all those that say the info in my post..."About the Duodenal Switch or BPD-DS" is wrong.
DSers require more revisions and have more leaks.
Cite, please? Oh, that's right. There isn't one.
DS surgeons are very skilled but few can perform the procedure laparoscopically, defeating one of the major advantages of laparoscopic surgery.
Ummm, what world are you living in? There are very few DS surgeons who DON'T do the surgery laparoscopically. And since when does surgery have to be laparoscopic? Your sentence makes no sense. And BTW, the "major advantage" of laparoscopic surgery - greater safety - disappears when you talk about bariatric surgery in specific.
All one has to do is ask oneself why less than five percent of U.S. surgeons endorse the DS.
At one point in time, only five percent of US surgeons endorsed the RNY. The others were too busy with the old-fashioned stomach stapling and the old JIB to be impressed with the RNY. Why are they now the majority and the DS surgeons the minority? Progress my friend, progress! The new supplants the old, plain and simple. The number of DS surgeons is rapidly growing, just as it did with the RNY. However, there may possibly not be as many DS surgeons out there because of the problems with technical difficulty and skill sets that are needed to perform it. Some surgeons may just never be able to, even if they wanted to. Just like there are some heart surgeries that only a few doctors are able to perform. Should we give up these life-saving procedures simply because only a few can do them? I think not!
All one has to do is ask why several well known DS surgeons have abandoned the procedure.
Well, the ones that we know of have abandoned the procedure because they were sick of their patients not being compliant with the rules of this surgery. I would be sick of it, too, if I ended up with a plethora of bad apples. I would be tired of being blamed for THEIR incompetence when I did the job I was supposed to - and perhaps even sued because of their refusal to comply. I'm also interested in this: Are you going to say the same thing about the thousands of doctors who have given up being OBs? Because they are giving up that practice in record numbers and I hope that this means that people won't be scared of getting pregnant, you know. Because doctors abandoning their OB practice means you shouldn't get pregnant, ever. NOT.
The side effects of the DS you listed are accurate. Of course we know, even if some DSers don't, that you did not imply everyone gets these symptoms, just that they are frequent.
Frequent? Ummm, again, what world are you living in? Have you even read the studies recently? They are nothing of the sort. This is are the same as with RNY. You obviously just don't get it. We do not like having these side effects listed as "givens" when they are listed as mere possibilities for other surgeries when ALL the surgeries have relatively similar statistics that they occur. THAT is the recognition that we want. Not fear-mongering.
And as to hate mongers. Hrm. I'd rather be a hate-monger for voicing my opinions in this situation (in a non-hatefull manner, BTW) than be a fear-monger and scare people away from something based on outdated information.

ROFL - Yeah, right! Nice to meet you Dr Quackman, I'm the pope.
Why can't I get to any info on your profile, since I may want to go to a "Dr" that sounds like a biased, immiture, misinformed fucktard!
How lucky we are to have the expertise and insight of an actual doctor taking the time to post on a blog such as this.
The Pope.
No, he actually IS a surgeon at Long Island Laproscopy in NY:

Thank-you Dr Brackman. It was kind of you to respond to my Thread. Yes I will continue to post, even though I am getting some pretty negative reactions. None of what I post is fiction and I also post the source. That is except for the jokes of course.
Take Care. Ed. S

Dr. Brackman's 1 and only post since 2005. Interesting that he'd feel the need to pipe in on this one in 3 years. Gee, I wonder if a few people hit the report button and since Ed is spewing OH info, they send one of their own to back it up. What hogwash!!! And I had the lapband and even I know from all I have read from tons of DS people on the different forums that most don't experience the stuff that is listed.
