To all those that say the info in my post..."About the Duodenal Switch or BPD-DS" is wrong.

Yes we have had this argument before.  No one convinced me it was wrong.

I might point out that Obesity Help puts this information out.  No one has convinced the people who own this website that it is wrong.

I also made sure to post where Obesity Help got the information.  This information has been provided courtesy of the Mount Sinai Program for Surgical Weight Loss. Please visit them at http://www.SurgicallySlim.com

So to all those that think this information is wrong I would suggest instead of trying to bash me and call me names that you contact where the info comes from and ask them to change it.  If they decide to go ahead and change the info I will repost the new info.  Until then.  This info is what Obesity Help puts out and I have to take it as correct.

This is where Obesity Help has posted the info.

To all the newbies who have been reading that this info is wrong.  I would suggest that you look at where the information comes from and judge for yourself.  The information I post is for newbies and you can do with it what you choose to do.  As always the choice is yours.

It has been made very clear Ed, that your intentions on posting this information are suspect. You know this information is controversial. To post it as the "truth" does everyone a disservice. I think the number of responses to your post is telling. All of them acknowledge that the information is incorrect. All of them acknowledge that your intentions are not good.

If you truly are wanting to give information to newbies, to help them make decisions, then you would pull this information. To continue to post it when you know the response this information will get only proves that you are wanting to create tension on the board.

I say it again - shame on you.

Ed, what is the problem here?

You could just as well be posting info on the DS that is more accurate and not biased (yes, docs and institutions who do the RNY pretty much exclusively MAY BE BIASED, and put their own spin on things).  And biased or not, none of us should be taking our info from a single source, yet you continue to push THIS info.  Why?  There's loads of stuff out there.  Just the experience of your fellow OHers should give you the idea that this info may be skewed.  I had the DS, and I haven't experienced anything like the side effects that you keep posting, and I find that to be true for most of our DS chums here on OH.  Really comes off as scare tactics to me, and I just don't get it!?  You're choosing to continually post info that many of your peers have pointed out is not entirely accurate, and you say you do it for the newbs.  Try looking for other sources please, for the newbs.  And as to this website not being convinced it is wrong, despite what many may think, this website is highly supported by RNY surgeons.  Besides, I don't think they are in the business of policing what is and isn't completely accurate on OH, if that were the case, there wouldn't be any posts here at all!

No one convinced you it was wrong because you are being inflexible, and have clearly made up your mind that Mount Sinai is the be all and end all of DS info.  That would be like me insisting that I'm the only accurate source for DS info, or you'll only get the 'real truth' about the DS from Dr L's website (he is pretty straight forward about it, however, but then again, I AM BIASED!).

Perhaps we should let newbies get their DS info from someone who is a little more open minded about it, and understands that Mount Sinai's info just isn't all it should be.

By the way, how has your experience with the RNY been?  I don't think I've seen you post much about how you are doing personally, but I haven't been on here that much this past month or so.  Are you having success, and what are you struggling with?  What side effects have you been experiencing, and how is your weight loss going?  Do you experience dumping syndrome?  Let us know so we can be supportive to you with your struggles and successes.  I'd like to see you share a little more of that stuff rather than just trying to teach us.  We could all bog down this site with studies and statistics, but is that really what this is all about?  Sure, we need to do our homework and research, but there is a lot more to it than that.

Peace.......Maggie

ETA: I just dug a little deeper into the Mount Sinai program (I'm like that).  There are 2 surgeons listed with their program, Dr Herron, with 10 years of bariatric surgery experience, and Dr Kini, with 5 years of bariatric surgery experience.  They have performed the DS  60 (lap) 20 (open), and10 times (lap),  respectively.  This is your incredible and infalible source of DS information?  Come on Ed!

I'm not exactly sure what is going on here as I must not have read Ed's previous post that this seems to refer to.

As for Ed, I don't think that he would knowingly or maliciously put out inaccurate information. I think that he is just trying to share what he has read about. We all have our own opinions of each surgery, that's why we choose whatever we do. I don't think that everyone will EVER agree 100% on anything and everyone is entitled to have their own opinion of anything. I hope that this doesn't cause too much tension on the board, I wouldn't want to see it turn into anything like the "rants and raves" forum!

best of luck to all,

Anita

Hi Anita,

I suggest you read the other thread before you decide what is not malicious or inaccurate information.

what is the other thread?? Can you send me a link, please? I never thought that Ed would do anything to stir up trouble on purpose.

Thanks for the info

Anita

Bev's link didn't work for me. Try this one.

ETA my link didn't work either. There must be some gliches with the system. It's the post by Ed S that starts: About the Duodenal Switch. Right now it's close to the bottom of the page.
