o/a The ****e i****ting the fan
I think you & hubby need to move on from each other (like yesterday)...seriously think of everything you two are going through in front of DSS (he's old enough that he's understanding EVERYTHING even when you two *think* he's not hearing) and the baggage he already had as it is! All this home drama isn't good for him (seems that both you and hub are both a little f’ed up right now). The real ****ty thing is that even if you and hub split tomorrow the financial **** will still follow you until all matrimonial finances are settled so you need to cut your losses before things get any deeper.
Hugs Heather we’re here for you!!

Hijack~ I'm curious as to why she shouldn't pay alimony if the shoe fits? Would we say that to a hubby if the tables were turned>> quick run to a lawyer so you don’t pay alimony cause your wife choose not to work? Probably not. I def don't agree with the whole step-mom paying cs though.

Actually if a partner has actively taken on raising a step child they can very well be expected to continue to support them. I know of several guys that supported step kids for a period of time and when the relationship collapsed the court ordered them to continue support. That's why I think it's extremely important for people to be aware of legal implications at the START of relationships so they can recognize what they are getting into.
I think the person that's judging your situation the hardest is yourself! I am so sorry to read that you're going through all this. You already know deep down the right answer to your own questions. I can read it in your post. From what I'm reading, you have been an amazing person to put up with all you have for as long as you have. Listen to your heart and do what's right for Heather.
Good Luck XO
