There is a national professional organization for registered dieticians. Look that up on Google, then go to your state and get some names from there. Make phone calls and do preliminary interviews. Have a list of what you want from a program before you make any phone calls, though.

Now, why do you believe you need a NUT? It sounds like you're getting a great deal more and better information and support right here. Do you need actual nutritional education?

No not really... I do get more help from here and it is much less expensive. I thought it was a requirement for success....that's what they said when I was getting ready for surgery....lol! You have been so helpful! This is all so stressful!

That's way too little.  The exact number of calories you need depends on a number of things, like your weight and your metabolism and how active you are, but you probably need closer to 1000.

My best guess for you is approximately 1000 calories a day.  Most days I eat 1000-1200, and occasionally up to around 1500 on days I do a lot of exercise.

Truly, 500 calories seems entirely too low unless you are in the first few weeks post-op (which you aren't).

Hi- I have a fantastic nutritionist and I spoke with her last week about this subject. I had RNY a few days after you.

I kickbox 4 times a week and have begun a jogging program on the other 3 days.
My intake was 600-800 cals a day and I felt like I was losing slowly.
I don't know how much you exercise but she recomended I consistently strive for the 800 per day.
If I still felt like I was losing too slowly- maybe up to 1000 per day.

So, I am in week 2 of 800 cals per day.
It has been tough as I don't eat much.
I'm throwing a smoothie made with greek yogurt and p. powder in daily to bump it up.

Good luck.

If you feel you are losing too slowing, you may not be eating enough especially with all your exercise.  800 calories is very little for 5 months out.  Are you getting in 80 grams of protein a day?  Do you eat 5 or 6 times per day?  These are all ways to optimize your metabolism.

My surgeon's nurse said that if you're getting in 80-90 grams of lean protein a day, you shouldn't worry about calories.  Just try to get most of the protein from your food.  I eat 3 protein meals a day and have 1 protein drink.  I'm usually around 800 calories a day, at least.

Like many of the other posters my NUT told me not to focus on calories and just to concentrate on getting in my protein.  She told me to get in 60-80 grams per day.  I know in one of the handouts it did mention that for the first couple of months I would only be getting in around 450 calories a day.  So I agree with the other posters that you may be eating too little since you are going on your 5th month.  I know that I currently average around 1000 calories per day and I work out 5-6 days per week and it seems to work for me.  Have not hit into any stalls and don't feel like I am starving myself.

I think at your stage 1000 to 1200 is a reasonable amount. See how that works for you. Just make sure most of it is protein. I never counted calories, just protein, and keep the carbs low.

Mine varies from about 650 to 1000.  When I eat very low carb (20 - 30 grams/day) with protien at least 80 g.  I lose a lot better than when I have more carbs.  Our bodies are different.  My surgeon told me I would know it was too low in calories if I was "exhausted" by the end of the day.  If that was the case, up the calories a bit until I find a good balance of energy and weightloss.  There is no concrete number from what I have gathered reading here and working with the Nut and surgeon. You will get different advice from everyone, but I would probably aim for more than 500 most days.
