Help me I need advice 3 yrs out and have gained 50lb 3 months
Ok then, "Stupid, just don't eat."
But seriously, what changed? If you were doing fine with maintenance and then suddenly gained fifty pounds in three months, what changed for you? You need to go back to basics to lose the weight, (protein first, limit calories, increase fluids, exercise) but it sounds like something else MUST be going on to suddenly shoot your weight up like that. Emotional eating? A hormone imbalance?

Regain at 3 years post-op is not surprising, but I have to say that 50 lbs in 3 months seems like a very rapid rate of regain.
Does the weight gain seem to match what you are eating, or do you feel like you are packing on the pounds disproportionately to your intake. The reason I ask, I wonder if you might have a physical issue contributing to the weight gain. (Mechanical failure, metabolic/thyroid issue, water retention issue, etc.)
Maybe you could go back to either counting calories, or focusing on a high-protein low-carb regimen. I'm sorry you are going through this.

What has changed in your life in the last three months?
I am 5.8 years out and I began to gain, after not gaining all this time, after I lost 2 sisters in 4 weeks. It wasn't that I was eating a lot as much as it was eating the wrong food choices. I started eating things I hadn't eaten in 5 years.
My thoughts are with you.

Im five and a half years out and the last 18 months has seen me gain about 30lbs. I know I am eating too often and the wrong things. I am in menopause which doesnt help, but I know I am the culprit. I know you will be told, go back to the beginning, you know what to do. Yep, I know what to do, it's doing it that is the hard part. good luck

When was the last time you keep a journal of what you ate? Try doing that for a week. Be honest with yourself. Also, are you on any medication? Some meds can cause weight gain. I was on Prozac for 4 months and gained 30 pounds. Doctor took me off of it.
Know your not alone in this. We are here and will be here to give you that kick in the butt and a shoulder you need to lean on.

Don't beat yourself up-eventually the body adapts to the bypass and becaomes more and more able to absorb food again. That is the point where it once again becomes work to keep it off. And a lot of the time a big part of the problem is that we becaome lax in watching what we are eating. Usually carbs are the culprit for the most part. Start tracking what you are eating on a site like fitday.com to get a handle on what you are truly putting in your mouth. It really is an eye opener. I think you will find that if you cut out any simple carbs and stick to lean proteins and healthy complex carbs like a lot of veggies and some whole grains, you will see the weight come off again. And check out how much liquid calories you are taking in too. These can also be a sneaky culprit in weight gain.
