Still learning the ropes...

Hello!  I found a protein powder that I think I like...but I think I would like it better if I mixed it with non-fat milk instead of water.  I had my surgery 3/31 and am in the pureed stage (not sure if this matters or not).  Do you think it would matter if I mix my protein powder in milk instead of water?

Thanks!

Nope - it doesn't matter, but make sure that you include the milk in your logging for the day.  Non-fat milk will actually add quite a bit of protein, but it also adds some calories.

I'm also on pureed foods and I am doing 3 protein shakes a day for the time being. I typically do one of the three as a chocolate shake that I mix with milk. I found right away that using skim milk didn't sit well with me so I've been using unsweetened almond milk and it's perfect. I know others have experience the same with cow's milk, so just take that under advisement when you try it - good luck!

Ugh I really wish I would have read your post before I drank my milk protein shake. I feel awful!! How long will this last? Thank God I only drank a quarter of it!

Oh boo! I'm sorry you feeling gross. Honestly I have never been a milk drinker, so I'm not really planning to go back to cow's milk anytime soon.

The Blue Diamond Unsweetened Almond Milk has good stats, I like the taste, and it doesn't make me feel yucky - so it's a keeper. It doesn't have as much protein as the cow's milk does, but as long as you're getting it somewhere else, no big deal!

I'd like to add another thumbs up for the almond milk. Love the stuff for shakes!

^^^^  Totally agree with the almond milk.

Although I have not had it since I had surgery.  I used to mix it in my oatmeal back in the REALLY REALLY FAT days. I can't stand regular milk at all.

Many people become lactose intolerant after stomach surgery. For some, it's temporary, for others it's permanent. (And there's more lactose in fat-free milk than there is in whole milk.)

I can't drink milk since surgery so use part Lactaid and par****er. Just experiment until you find what works best for you.

Go ahead, doesn't matter.  Gives you some more protein...and a few more carbs.
