Lots of compliments over the weekend

When I was at my church's festival this weekend, many people were complimenting me on my weight loss and were stunned by how fast I've lost weight.

It feels really good when people notice. I find myself trying to change the topic whenever it's brought up, however, because I'm really awkward with compliments.....don't know why....haha. But, they made me feel good.

Enjoy the compliments and just say "Thank you".  You work hard, you deserve those compliments and it helps to keep you on your journey. I know it makes me want to keep losing

Go you! :)

One thing I do when compliments make me feel awkward is to turn around and say something nice about the other person. "Well thanks, I'm definitely feeling great. And you look like you're doing really well too, I heard you're doing some exciting things at work!" Or compliment their shoes, or their hair, or whatever else. Takes the focus away from you and keeps the conversation rolling.

Good idea! I do like to turn the conversation around with a "How have you been?" I just hate being the topic of conversation, haha.

I feel like massive weight loss causes so many of us to become masters of redirection :D

I don't feel as awkward when I'm around a bunch of people that know I had surgery, but when I'm around people that don't know I had surgery, I just feel awkward. I don't really care for the whole word to know that I had gastric bypass.

I totally get that.  For me, that awkwardness was greater than my desire to tell everyone about my surgery, so I ended up just telling everyone to remove the awkwardness from my life.

But I completely get and respect that other people feel differently!

When someone asks me how I lost my weight, I always tell them I had surgery.  That way I'm not lying and I'm not making excuses.  No one has ever said it was cheating, or that it doesn't count.  All responses have been positive, because my attitude is so positive.

5' 5" tall. VSG on August 4, 2015/ Starting weight 239.9/ Surgery weight 210.9/ Current weight 137.4/ Goal weight 140/ No longer overweight, now a NORMAL weight. Now that I'm at goal, it's time to move on to maintenance!!!!!!!!

Me too Neesie. I even tell people in Goodwill. I spent my whole adult life thinking if I just worked out more or ate less I would lose the weight. It wasn't true for me so I don't want to leave others thinking that same thing by what I say. Everyone has to do what works for them, and for me that's total and complete honesty. I've had several acquaintanceS ask questions and go on to have surgery too.

Just reflect the compliment back at them.  Here's how you do it..

"What a thoughtful thing to say.  I really appreciate that, and thank you!"

Whatever you do, do NOT tear yourself down to contradict the compliment and cheapen their effort of pointing out your success.
