Hi Dcgirl,

I had friends just call me asking if I wanted to do the east coast cruise in the fall. I guess it starts in Boston and goes up the east coast to Nova Scotia. I am so thrilled and can't wait It sounds amazing!

I'm curious, do you have "rules" about visiting states? Like, what counts? Does driving through it count? Do you need to spend the night there? Have a meal there? Just curious as this question has come up in my household before, so I'm curious what your definition is.

THAT is a great question Jester!!! I wondered the same thing, but I wanted to tack one on as well. How do you travel? RV, car or plane?

It's funny - this is a topic of debate! I count them if I drive through, go to the bathroom, have a meal. As in, you can't just have a layover at the airport in a state and say you've been there. You have to actually experience something! And I weigh different states differently. As in, if you're traveling across Pennsylvania and dip into NY state to have a meal, can you really say you have "been" to NY? As opposed to if you are in Colorado and do a day trip into Nebraska and spend a few hours there. So really, it's subjective. Some of the sparser states, I have counted driving across it since I have stopped for a meal and to go to the bathroom. But again, it's subjective.

My missing states are:

Hawaii

Alaska

Maine

NH

Vermont

Rhode Island

Oklahoma

New Mexico

North Dakota

South Dakota

The only states I have "counted" but haven't visited/spent a night in are Kansas, Nebraska, Montana and Wyoming. I have driven through or done day trips to those states. All other states I have slept in.
