Another disappointing half

Today was supposed to be an attempt at a half marathon P.R.  After taking a few weeks off from running in August I knew that it would not be possible and decided that if I run a 2:13 (10 min miles), I would be happy with that.  After running a 2:16 to weeks ago at a local half and a good solid 10K last weekend, I thought that it would not be a problem.  Well, once again I walked most of the last three because of stomach issues.  I made sure that I ate well leading up to today so that It would not be a problem (sugar and lactose).  Still, at mile 10 the cramping began.

Boy was I dejected.  Normally, I run against myself and the clock and could care less what anyone else is doing.  Today, as I was walking at about mile 11 and people were passing me who in my mind had no business passing me and it really pissed me off.  The cramping sensation passed at about mile 12.75 and I did run to the finish line.  As a matter of fact, I didn't even look for a bathroom for about an hour after the race.  I didn't need one at that time.

Hopefully, someone will have the reason that I can't finish a race because it is frustrating.  Hell, I even had one stop at mile 9 of my half two weeks ago.  Right now, I can't imaging signing up for anything over a 10K because of this issue.

Thanks for letting me ***** a bit.

Dang bro... That sux you are having GI probs man. 2:30 is still not bad...Aside from having to walk because of something that was not in your control, you executed your plan perfectly. Another finish and another arrow in the quiver. There's another race for redemption... there alway is...

Thanks man.  It's tomorrow and I am slowly getting over it.  I like the another day for redemption line.  That may come in handy.

So sorry this is plagueing you Scott.
I hope you can find a solution to it.  You still did what needed to be done and were stopped by something you can't control.  I wish you the best and hope you keep your chin up.

Congrats on finishing the race.

Hey Scott,

Don't forget that there was never a thought of not finishing.  It was happening regardless of your time.

This is what I noticed earlier this year.  I didn't run for about 4-5 weeks.  Getting back into it, I had lots of GI problems.  Could barely run 2-3 miles before needing to stop.  That was late May.  It is now October and my body is finally getting where it was being able to run sometimes 6 or 7 miles before needing to stop.  Not all the time, mind you, but most of the time.  I still sometimes need breaks at mile 3, 5... and so on.  I just think that the body forgets too quickly and then it takes a really long time to retrain it - even when we eat right.  It also happens more often when I increase the intensity or speeds.

Congrats on another finish, Scott!  I think it'll work itself out again soon.

For this fall's races I only did 4 runs over 8 miles.  Maybe I need to get more long runs in to get more used to it.  Hmm.  Something to think about.  Thanks

Scott at least you're still out there doing it.  You've not let it stop you and you deserve a pat on the back for that.  You may not have done what you planned to do on that particular day but you're capable of doing it and that's all that really matters.  Keep your chin up and keep pushing on.

This does suck Scott.

What did you intake race morning?   I'd try nothing if you did eat anything.   Stop everything after dinner the night before.    I don't think for a half you need anything other then some quick carbs on the course mid way.
