1st Half Marathon IN THE BAG!!!!
Like I posted many months ago, I signed up for my 1st half marathon and yesterday was the big day! I am 18 months post RNY and up to this point I've run several 5k's, one 5 mile, and a couple of mixed activity 5K races, all post op. Yesterday I ran the Carlsbad 1/2 marathon in 2:52:37 for a pace of 13:10. Other than walking while I go****er and stopping to have a nice volunteer tie my shoe (42 degrees at the gun start - my hands were numb and ineffective!) I ran the entire way. Slow, but I ran. GORGEOUS scenery up and down the coast. I am sore today and walking a bit gingerly, but otherwise no injuries. I waxed up the feet and the thighs with glide and had noooo issues.
While 13:10 may seem like a slow pace for you E&F forum vets, it's a whole minute off my previous pace time! Still slow but getting less slow!
I am signed up for another 1/2 marathon over memorial day weekend (i need a goal otherwise i SLACK off!) so I'm going to see if I can get a bit faster!
Thanks to everyone here who supports us newbies with advice and encouragement. You are always a BIG help!

I was wondering when that race was coming up!!! GREAT JOB!!!! That is so awesome to improve by a whole minute per mile... It's gonna be sweet to see how far you have progressed on memorial day... Keep up the great work, recover well, and enjoy the spoils of victory...

That is absolutely freaking awesome
Congrats on your success.
It took me a couple days to recover from the first 1/2 marathon.
The second one, I was gtg the next day.
Good luck on your recovery and best wishes on the next run.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
Body Glide!! If you a training for a 1/2 this could become your best friend. It prevents chafing and it does feel a little bit like soft wax. I don't chafe too badly because I wear running tights or capris but I do use it between my toes, all over my feet and around all the edges of my sports bra for long runs. It looks like a tube of solid deodorant.

It's good everywhere :) You can get it at any running store for sure and probably any major sporting goods store, the main brand is called Body Glide, I think it comes in a dark gray container right now and it's about $9-$10 bucks and one tube lasts me forever.
