wow, i'm sore.

did a 31 miles bike ride today, but crashed my bike around mile 25.  i lost focus/concentration for a moment and my front tire slipped off the shoulder into the dirt and yep got dumped.  i was going around 20 MPH at the time and basically did a slide down the road on my left hip/leg and forearm.  i have some road rash on my left knee, calf, hip (huge raspberry), forearem, and both elbows.  i also had to get 5 stitches on my left forearm.  the most ironic/funny part of the experience?  my road id got ripped off and i didn't notice it until i got home.... so there is a road id on the road in rural GA without a body :)

bike is ok, and i was able to ride 6 miles back to my house after the spill (after i reset the chain)... no worse for wear except for being sore and feeling stupid :)

I am sure you already know this but ice your injuries for 20 minutes every hour. I would take ibuprofen but I know some of us are religious about not taking those types of drugs. Tylenol works almost as well. Rest up and heal!

I was wondering how bad it'd look when you posted earlier.  I'd say that was a pretty rough trip.  I'm sure it will be worse in the next couple days, but take good care of yourself.  Easy does it...

OMG! So glad it wasn't worse (although it looks very painful!)

Rest and take care!

It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!!! I remember my first spill last year... Was crossing a bridge that has a metal lip, it was damp out, I turned quick, on metal lip, like a banana peel, gnarly stuff all on my right side. No stitched though, just a wounded ego for the most part. Funny stuff on the Road ID....

Fell two weekends ago at an intersection.  Was going from stopped position.  Stood up to get a good push off, an didn't clip in right.  Cleat came out of the pedal and down I went in the middle of the intersection with cars coming.  had to unhook myself the rest of the way, jump up and get myself and bike out of the way of oncoming cars.  Got home and my leg and shoe were spattered with blood from the nice road rash down my left leg.  Bent the left brake/shifters, tore the tape on the handlebars, ripped the shoe covers.

Sore for about 3 days following that.  All of that was from a stop/starting fall.  I can just imagine how bad that would have hurt at 20 mph.

I hope your recovery is smoothe.

Scott
