Calories Burned on Cardio Equipment

Hi Everyone,

I have been exercising regularly since my surgery, primarily on the cardio equipment, treadmill and elliptical. I was curious how much faith I should put in the machine's calculation of calories burned. Has anyone done any testing?

A Heart Rate Monitor would probably give you much more accurate info than a treadmill readout...

I've compared the machines' readouts with what my Body Bugg says. The machines consistently overestimated the calories burned from about 12 calories during a one hour workout to almost 100 calories on a 45 minute workout.

You will find differences wherever you look.
From machine to machine to heart rate monitor to websites etc.

I usually take the lowest reading when I compare them (If it is a reasonable comparrison)
If the results are within 50 calories of each other I'll log the lowest.

The one thing you have to do is be honest with the intensity level you were exercising at.
