Completed First half Marathon
I still can not believe that I ran a half marathon just 10 months after I start running and 11 months since surgery. I have never wrote a race report but here goes.
Got up at 5 am race started at 8 and was an hour away. I really wanted to get there by 7 so that I would have time to get my stuff ready, warm up a little and hit the potty. I was worried about the parking. Well I got the kids in the car at 5:45 and we were off next stop the airport to get hubby. We finally arrived at the race at 7:15 and there was plenty of parking. I had plenty of time to get ready, warm up and hit the potty. I could not believe it when I looked up and seen my in-laws they made the hour drive to come cheer me on and I think my husband was so happy to have help with the kids. They changed the course this year so a lot of the race was on main roads with a lot of hills it also ran through local trails which was beautiful. I thought it was going to be more of a trail run but for my family being able to see me it was great I loved seeming throughout the race they were able to see me 4 times plus the start and finish.
Okay so now for the start it was kinda of a crazy start everyone just standing around they announced 2 minutes to go and people started moving forward they the gun went off. It was a slow start but as soon as you hit the mat you were off and going down the hill into the park it was a cold but beautiful morning I settled in with a group that were keeping a 9:30 pace it was a little faster than I wanted but I felt good and everyone was so friendly and supportive. I hung with them until mile 5 when my knee started feeling a little weird so I decided to drop back to about a 10 pace. At this point we had just come down hill about a mile and a half and I knew that we were going to have to climb this hill on the way back because it was an out and back. Back onto the trail we go and at about mile 6 we see the leaders coming at us, then soon after you come out off the into a neighborhood a half mile to the turn around I was so excited to see my family at mile 7.5 it was just what I needed then back on the trail for 2 miles before the big up hill I was thinking about the hill for 2 miles when I hit the hill I just kept telling myself just keep moving keep your arms moving and your legs will follow. I will not say I run up that hill but I did not walk! I saw a girl hit the pavement she just went down I later heard they had to take her to the ER. I made it up that hill and turned back into the park almost to the trail head and I saw a water stop I was so happy but just then I felt a cramp in my leg I thought oh no I didnt make it this far to have this happen I yelled for powerade instead of water i downed 3 cups and kept on going telling myself just keep the arms moving and they legs will follow then I see the mile to go I was so happy I passed 3 people then again I saw another girl sitting on the side she had bad craps in her legs she yelled you go girl! Then I see the half mile to go and was like I can do anything for a half mile. Up the hill to the straight away I could hear my family yelling and I kicked it into high gear and finished with a 2:31. My personal goal was 2:30 so I will take the 2:31. The last 3 miles took me way longer than I would have like but I will get them next time.
Next race for me is Thanksgiving day an 8k and a 5k in Dec. I am hoping maybe to squeeze in a 10 miler or maybe a another half my husband is doing the bridges to battleship ironman in Nov and the half I would love to do is the same weekend I am not sure we can do both but who knows we are kinda crazy like that its something to think about because I think I am hooked and I am thinking a marathon maybe in my future!
It was a Great race and I plan on doing it again next year.

Congratulations! Sounds like you're definitely hooked. I love reading about everyone's self-talk that gets them through the challenging moments of the event.
