At what weight did everyone start C25K?

I have bad hips, knees and ankles but really want to start the program. My PT wants me to start it in the pool. I read a few posts where people started at 200 but that puts so much weight on your joints. Right now I do a recumbant stair stepper type of thing, walking, elliptical, and water aerobics.  I can't go back to  weights or yoga until I am recovered from my incissional hernia surgery.

Is doing it in the water the same? It is hard to run in water... Thanks for the input.

I started at 210.  Have been ok so far.  Currently on week 7.

I was still 260 or so when I started running (6'1").  205 now.

A long time ago I told myself that once I got under 200 pounds I would not have any more excuses and would start running.  Once I got there I started c25k, I think it was early August, and I ran my first race October 2nd.  I was lucky though and had not yet messed up my joints.

You might want to listen to what your pt says...and listen to what your body is telling you.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

you should probably not think in terms of body weight.  i.e., i'm 6'0" and weigh 240, but am fairly fit.  i would think more in terms of fitness and comfort.  when you can comfortably walk at a fast/brisk pace while on an incline (getting your heart rate up to zones 3 and 4) then i would consider jogging or the c25k program.  when i say comfortable, that is without joint pain etc.  it took me a solid 5 or 6 months before i was comfortable enough to jog.  like you, i started with walking and then other cardio machines before i was ready to move on.  best of luck!
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

I'm 5'8" and tried many times to start running when I was well over 200 lbs., but my legs just would not go.  It didn't hurt -- I couldn't last long enough for it to hurt -- they just couldn't handle the load for any length of time.

This time, I told myself not to even try until I was down under 200.  One of my biggest goals was to actually DO a 5K by fall, so in the middle of July when I realized time was gonna start running short, I started at about 192 and was surprised and thrilled that it worked!

May depend on age and current strength, too.  Chakara just did her first one last weekend and she's still up in the 200s, but also younger (not sure how old, but I'm 45).

When you say PT I'm assuming you mean Physical Therapist?  That's what I do, and if you already have bad joints I'd also say wait until you're 30 lbs from goal or so, but work on getting all those supporting muscles good and strong between now and then.  What ever you do, good luck!

I was around 220 or so, I'm 5'8". I would just make sure you can walk comfortably for at least 30 minutes before trying.

edited to add, I'm 195 now.

I tried it when I was still over 270 and had trouble with the durations.  I modified the durations and still do (Doctors scale read 250 this am).  I finished my first 5K when I was in the 275-280 range.

As people told me if you can't handle C25K because of your body then modify it so it works for you.

I still haven't resumed the C25K but I typically do 4 mile walk/jog which gives me more distance and I increase mt jogging and decrease my walking every 2-3 weeks.

Good Luck!

I was 340 when I started.  It wasn't as hard on me as it was on the treadmill.
I broke/damaged a couple of them in the beginning until my weight got down.
