New PR, baby!!
I too ran the White Rock Marathon on Sunday. The only down side was that I didn't not get to meet up with my shivering mates from this forum before the race. Dan, I never did see the 4 hour pacer dude!
It was rather brisk in Dallas, TX Sunday morning. About 34 air temp with the wind out of the north at 15 to 20 mph, but they did provide a building to stay in until the race.
At 8:00A the first wave of the approximate 25,000 racers were sent off. Eighteen minutes late the corral I was in started. It was pretty neat with the confetti flying and the air cannons going off.
I tried to stick to about a 9:30/mile pace for most of the way and was fairly successful at doing so. The difficult portion of the race is called the "Dolly Partons," two hills, get it?, that go about 2 1/2 miles. It starts at about mile 21 or so. Last year when I ran the race this where I shredded my legs and had to walk a good deal of the rest of the way. This year I was much better prepared and had my hydration and nutrition under control. Dropped back to about a 10:30/mile pace and worked my way up the hills.
About the time I finished the hills at mile 23, the 4;15 pace group caught me. It was very helpful running with a group and provided the encouragement I needed. I had enough energy left to break away from the group at the 26 mile mark and sprinted, or what passed for a sprint through the finish line. I finished in 4:19. Last year I did it in 4:52. There is a lot to be said about the additional year of running and conditioning.
I really appreciated having my wife and son there for me and all the inspiration that all of you on this board have provided.

We were stuck in horrendous traffic and we started at the VERY back of the race. 48 minutes after the gun went off to be exact! So, there is no way I would have seen ya... Great race buddy. What did you think about the new start / finish? I did like the finish... a LOOOOOONG stretched road for 1 mile that leads you to the finish. I liked not having as many turns as well. But holy crap... It seemed like we parked in Tahiti after we got done running to get back to the car!

Congratulations Darrell!!! You had an awesome finish time!!! I'm so glad you posted your time from last time. It gives me hope. My time was 4:57 and I was hoping for better, but with my shin issue, I was happy to finish. Congrats!!!!You did so great!!! It was a nice race!!!
My group L started at 8:45. The poof of confetti was a small poof when we made it to the start, but my family took pictures from the A group start and they got some amazing pictures of the confetti and flames. It sure was cold though, huh? Nicely organized though!

Congratulations Darrell! Sounds like you didn't let Dolly distract you from your goal. That's fantastic improvement over last year.
