How can I find what MY target heart rate should be.  I am female age 51 at 260 lbs just starting to get back into a fitness regime.

It really depends on what exercise you are doing and the purpose of your workout.  If you are doing an endurance based workout then your HR would be lower than if you were doing an AT workout.  Cycling will typically have different zones than running, and it really can be changes based on your fitness level.

Sorta accepted practice is that your AT is 180 - Age above that number you are doin AT work which will be short intervals zones below that will be endurance.  Think of it as 5K versus Marathon.  5K is as fast and as hard as you can go (AT) marathon slower more controlled pace.

Each workout has a specific goal in mind.  So first you need to figure out what the goal is and then work from there.  If you are a member of a good gym they should be able to run a test to get your cardio profile and help dial in your zones for you.

Thanks Paul,

My goal is a healthier lifesytle...and weight loss.  I know I need to start slow...but feel like slow is to slow.  I don't have a gym available to me so I am at my own mercy.
