Crystal Lite and any sugar-free drops (mio), Gatorade G2, watered down juices, all on my approved list. You should be allowed milk now, no? I can't remember what week that is in my post op guidelines so I might be wrong.
I also just found Protein 2o which is protein water - 15g of protein per bottle and only 2 carbs. Yum!
Yeh the tea is major border line discussion...i have heard yes it's ok then i've heard no because it slows down the weight loss. So i'm not sure if it's a doctor by doctor kind of thing or what....so definitely check with urs. l drink it. I started out using sweet and low and then heard the stuff about how bad it was for u then I stopped using it and gradually starting drinking tea with sugar again...BIG MISTAKE!!! BIG!!! I was doing so good. I was also drinking crystal light, their peach tea is to die for...but when i started drinking my tea with sugar again, I was hooked, and that is probably part of the reason my weight loss has slowed down, let me re-phrase that...STOPPED!!! So, guys I have to get back on track, so if u have any suggestions, please let them roll my way....thanks so much....
Hey guys, has anyone had a problem with chipping teeth? Im 3yrs out and it just started. My front two teeth just started chipping away. And if u look at them, they are hollow, almost like they are very brittle. My PCP has done labs and they all come back ok. So what could be wrong? Is my body not absorbing something the way it should, am I not taking the right vitamins? Im lost, PLEASE HELP!! I have lost contact with my bypass doctor so not sure who to go to now for questions. New to the group, just joined today, so any feedback is greatly appreciated!!! thanks in advance!!!
More and more leading doctors are discovering that insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome are two primary causes of weight gain that cannot be helped with traditional diet and exercise.
Dr. Robert Lustig author of the New York Times best seller Fat Chance: Beating the Odds against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity and Disease, and Dr. Ron Rosedale, author of The Rosedale Diet, advise that branch chain amino acids (BCAAs) and protein contribute to insulin resistance and obesity.
Whey protein, which I and the majority of bariatric patients have been conditioned to consume, is one of the worst foods for releasing insulin in the body according to Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, a Swedish medical doctor and specialist in family medicine.
Dr. Eenfeldt, commonly known on the web as the "Diet Doctor," interviews Dr. Lustig on the "Causes of Obesity" in the video below (or watch it on YouTube).

I've been eating a high-protein diet with protein shakes, and taking BCAAs because I thought I was doing my body good. Maybe I'm not; I have metabolic syndrome. Many years ago my bariatric nutritionist told me that I could diet and exercised all I wanted but if I did not balance my protein and carbs that I would not lose weight. She said that she saw this all the time in her practice.
If metabolic syndrome is the cause of your weight gain, a diet that is low to moderate in calories coupled with an exercise plan may not be enough to lose the weight. And if you continue to eat the wrong foods, exercise and diet may not help at all. Talk to your nutritionist.
Further, you may wish to explore three diets for metabolic syndrome from Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Robert H. Lustig, and Dr. Andrew Weil in my article, "Metabolic Syndrome and Weight Loss."
I have not decided what I am going to do. I will begin by reading Dr. Lustig's book, which has gotten acclaimed reviews. I would love to hear feedback from anyone who has first-hand knowledge of his approach, which is not all that different from the Pescatarian Paleo Diet that I follow, based on what I know of his recommendations.
Thanks very much. BTW, I am 12-years+ out from my gastric bypass surgery, just for your information, and so it would be very helpful to hear experiences of those who are several years out from their WLS. Thanks again!
one of the suggestions on here is iced tea. you might want to check with your surgeon if you are allowed caffeine. I am not allowed caffeine post-op. Your surgeon may give you a time frame of when you can start taking caffeine post-op if you are not allowed now.
I have a really hard time with plain water, so I drink flavored, calorie free water, or herbal tea. It's a lot easier to get out in that way.
I get the largest sizes that I can of regular iced tea at Sonic or McDonald's sometimes I buy to Route 44 Iced Teas and put one in my fridge I can drin****d tea all day long but for some reason it's really hard to drink a lot of water. I don't make iced tea at home it doesn't seem like you can get it to taste as good as it does at a restaurant.
