I feel pretty dumb here and its a stupid question but I apparently need help. I'm still waiting on approval to get a Sleeve so I don't currently have a WLS. I had a Lap band that was removed. I've been on a medically supervised diet for over 3 months and loosing an average of 2 lbs a month... 1 lb one month 6 lbs one month and 1 lb one month. Dr says its calories in vs calories out to follow my fitness pal app. it says due to weight and lack of activity to have 2200 calories a day. i dont et close to that ever. My average is 1200 calories... i'll be extremely honest probably half of that is pop and im working on getting rid of pop but im wondering if maybe i'm not loosing because im not eating enough? enough healthy food that is to make my body not store everything? I don't know im so frustrated
My advise is to look up the Paleo diet. This is a high protein, very low carb, low sugar plan which is similar to post-op WLS.
2200 calories is to high and I understand that giving up pop is tough, but do just do it. Just replacing the pop with water will help you feel so much better.
Losing weight whether on your own or with the tool of a WLS is hard. You have to realize that you will be committing to a lifestyle change.
Also check out the "what you eating" threads on the different surgery forums. It will give you an idea of what and how much others are eating. Make sure you measure and weigh out your portions. This will help when you do get the sleeve.
Best of luck to you.
thank you! i feel like i really know nothing about loosing weight. Ive tried for years and failed and i just thought it was me. its hard to give up sugar to be sure. dietitian said eat protein first and nothing with over 15 carbs a serving. if i have room than to eat veggies. that's for after surgery. i am still tying to get approval for it almost completed everything necessary done now. i just want to start early and loose now too. any advise for daily eating?
It's really hard to find a GOOD protein bar that is actually low carb.
Quest claims that its bars are FULL of fiber. They're full of a product called vita fiber which essentially is corn syrup... a true probiotic fiber should be 0 calories per gram. Vitafiber is 2 calories per gram and therefore not a true fiber... it's really a carb!
I also found that when I ate them--I gained!
Sugar is very similar to crack cocaine. The more you have it the more your body craves it. You need to crowd out sugar and concentrate on protein. You want to have at least 100g of protein a day! It will really help. Watch our for gimmicks like protein bars--you want a good protein supplement that is tailored to bariatric patients but anyone can use.
If you have any questions, please ask!
Sugar also causes insulin to spike, and insulin triggers fat storage. Obesity is partially hormonal, too. It also stimulates appetite. Extra protein is converted to glucose, which is converted to, you guessed it, fat. So, that is another good reason to get as few calories as possible from any super processed carbs, especially sugars.
I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!

I haven't had surgery yet, but I asked the surgeon about this liquid diet liver thing and he said that it's not a requirement for him at all. He operates on all different sizes of people all the time and says he never had a problem with somebody's liver being too big or too "slippery" (like to fatty) to do the surgery. He also said he thinks it's a dubious diet because he said didn't believe people lose enough weight in those 2 weeks to make much of a difference. FYI my BMI is 52, so I'm no lightweight. He said the only thing they require prior to WLS is taking all my vitamins and nothing after midnight the night before. So, I'd say, follow your doctor's orders, but certainly don't stress over it. I hope this helps!!!! I'm not trying to discourage anybody!

I was on a liquid diet before surgery.
I had the same concern before surgery.
my surgeon said it was very unusual to not be able to
operate as a result of someone's liver being too large
I was concerned because my GI Doctor kept telling me that I had fatty liver disease

My WLC tells us to stay away from caffeine because it can affect your appetite, make you hungry or suppress your appetite. I've never noticed it having this effect on me, but I still avoid it, usually.
I steered clear of caffeinated coffee until about 4 months postop. I still only will drink it in moderation, though. For some reason the coffee upsets my stomach (diarrhea almost immediately). I drink caffeinated iced tea without any issues, so I am not sure if it is the caffeine or the coffee part...

I'm in my pre-op program for vsg surgery and my dietician has been having me keep a food log, and she wants me to keep track of the amount of protein I have, she says I should be having at least 60G a day but the highest I am able to make it is 49.
I eat kinda whatever for breakfast that's allowed and then I have a lean cuisine for lunch and dinner. It's been great for weight loss but not for protein, the highest protein lean cuisine I have is only 18G. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on simple or semi-easy ways to get all my protein in?
eat real meat, chicken or any other dense protein instead of lean cuisine, which are really crap food.
