Lately I've been eating strawberry yogurt (Dannon light & fit) with peanut butter powder stirred in. It only has about 8 carbs that way and to me it tastes like a pb&j sandwich w/o the bread. Kind of like if you were to dig into the goobers jar with a spoon!

Many people find that a low-carb dietary pattern is easiest for them to sustain; however, there's nothing magical about low-carb, high-carb, or weight loss.  It's simply the low-calorie way of eating that's easiest for them to maintain.  Switching to low-carb at the same number of calories per day isn't going to make you lose weight.

As for the donut, it's a donut.  It's a treat, not a snack.  As a treat - a rare indulgence - it's probably not the worst but don't turn them or any other treat into a habit.

Net carbs are the total carbs (23g) minus the dietary fiber(6g) which would give this donuts a "net carb" of 17 carbs.  For me, I wouldn't eat this except for a very rare thing.  Eating this would lead me to start thinking "One little piece of this one wouldn't be too bad...."  my treats are things I make that I can't get outside of my kitchen.

Topic: RE: Do You Plan Ahead?

I'm 9 years post-op and made a conscious early on to build healthy habits and shopping routines.  That has made making better choices to this day second nature.  When I grocery shop, I focus on fresh veggies and fruits, non-processed foods, lean meats and whole grain "carbs."  I avoid premade/prepackaged foods unless I know exactly what's in them.  I also built a large repertoire of healthy recipes that my sons and I enjoy.

You made many excellent points in your reply; healthy choices, preparation for easy to grab snacks and meals and heavy on the protein -light on the carbs.  I like ve your approach!  The key to my success at maintaining my goal weight is to not bring the crappy food into my home (if it's not there, I won't be reaching for it as a quick snack) and focus on the protein avoid carbs.

Yep...eventually our stomachs tolerate pills better.  But I have found that I have to space pils out over the course of the entire day.  And some pills just make my stomach feel icky.  That is my struggle at the moment...trying to find a schedule/plan/routine that works for me.

Best set wishes for your weight loss journey...it's SO worth it!

I've had RnY and am wondering if there is a point when we can actually swallow pills again? The meds I'm taking for depression, suppress gall stones, Tramodol, and Tylenol taste very nasty ground up in water.

People need to adapt what works for them.  I routinely have 15 hour days and working in healthcare means an abundance of crappy food is constantly everywhere.  I plan everything ahead, usually, and budget for so many times eating out.  I also have binge eating disorder, so I really can never eat to suit my mood because it can be a dangerous way to back slide.  I can understand why someone without those issues could be more spontaneous.  Not everyone needs to be as regimented as me.

I actually use a program called Plan to Eat to manage my recipes and meals.  I track using MFP, though I've been haphazard the past few weeks.  I always make sure to get back on track when I realize a lapse ASAP.

I try to cook enough of a variety that I don't get bored and I can pull out a serving from the freezer and still have it feeling "random."  It also helps me eat out far less, which is bad both for my hips and my wallet!

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
