Topic: Savory Oatmeal - Yes or No?

I eat quite a bit of oatmeal now that I'm in maintenance. In fact, steel-cut oats are the only grain I generally consume. However, when I eat oatmeal I tend to add some Splenda, and I try and keep my use of artificial sweeteners to a minimum. I also don't do a great job getting a lot of protein with my oatmeal (I often add almond slices, and have tried adding some peanut powder). This brought me to savory oatmeal as an option.

I had never considered eating this way, so yesterday I made up a batch of steel cut oats using chicken broth, and added in some green chiles and jalapenos. I then added a soft-boiled egg to the top with a couple of dashes of Tabasco. It wasn't bad. I don't know that's I'm ready to eat it regularly, but it was a very nice, and different, change of pace.

So I was just curious if any of you OHers eat savory oatmeal? If you do, is there a particularly good way you prepare them? Always looking to broaden my horizons!

Hello, I have already had my surgery and already 6 years out. I had put on some weight and not lost all my weight. I decided a little over a week ago to start doing a low carb way of eating. I have not had any issues so far. I actually like it.

Wow, am I an idiot. I've been using MFP for YEARS and never knew I could reconfigure the meals/snacks. This is literally life altering!! LOL. I've always hated that my "snacks" got lumped together as I eat 5-6 times daily, but only had the default 4 categories. My life is better already ;-)

I find optimum nutrition's double rich chocolate to be a darker chocolate than most. And you could add cocoa powder to make it darker.

Topic: Digestion issues on a low carb diet

I am going in for my initial resting metabolic rate testing and nutritional consult tomorrow. I know from my research and my initial consultation visit that this program focuses on a low carb diet after surgery and I assume also in the pre-surgery stage.

I've done low carb many times, including most of June and every time, I experience digestive issues with loose stools. This doesn't resolve until I go back to eating grains.

Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, how did you deal with it, especially after surgery (bypass, in my situation)?

I'm concerned that my new diet after surgery will leave me life-long digestive issues.

Yes I always took grazing to be a bite here and a bite there between actual meals. I was a bad grazer pre wls and its still a habit I am having to rein in. Everyday it gets easier though! Well mostly lol

Two hours is a little too frequent. I eat every 3. Grazing is sort of picking at food all day, at random. Eating every 3 hours, by the clock, is not the same as grazing. It's just eating by a particular plan.
