Sweating post-op

I have had a problem with sweating for years.  I was always told by my PCP that I sweat excessivly because I was obese for so long.  I have lost over 90lbs so far and I am still sweating like there is no tomorrow.  And it isn't only when I am doing something physical.  This past weekend especially I sweated a lot.  I was barely doing anything and I had sweat dripping off of me.

Has anyone else experienced this?  Excess sweating, even after losing a bunch of weight?  Is this something that I should talk to my PCP about, I don't even know if there is anything that can be done about it.

I can't say I have experiences with this.  But it never hurts to talk to your doctor.  You might also want to investigate natural remedies online.  Good luck to you!

I'm like you I sweat for no reason. I'm still pre op but have you had your hormone levels checked? That's what my problem was.
Congratulations on the weight loss.

I used to always be HOT and sweaty, couldn't get the room cold enough for me.  Since losing the 75 pounds I am COLD!  I don't like cold!   I have never been cold.  I actually bought a sweater in JULY!  Sorry I can't help, other than to say I have gone from your situation to the opposite!  I have the funny feeling I'm gonna hate winter!  Regards, Ian

I don't have the condition but have heard of those with it. The medical term is "hyperhidrosis". You can check out this website for possible solutions:

It can also be a medication side effect. For me an antidepressant caused it. I stopped the meds and retuned to a more nomal level.

My husband pours sweat in his sleep- no matter how igloo like the bedroom is, no blankets etc.
Google "Hyperhidrosis" -its treatable with botox (believe it or not) into the sweat glands.

Hope this helps;)

Penny, I have the same problem with the excessive sweating. I'm 3 months post-op and have not noticed any difference yet. I saw a plastic surgeon last year and he stated that I have Hyperhidrosis - he claimed that it could be treated with Botox injections at a cost of $2500. I decided to wait until I've lost all my weight - I'm hoping that the excess sweating is just the result of being obese and is not Hyperhidrosis. Maybe you should speak to your endocrinologist about it - it could be a hormonal issue or some type of imbalance in your body.

I have "un-professionally-diagnosed" hyperhydrosis too.

It's more common than you think and can be EXTREMELY embarrasing.  It is one of the reasons I am doing this surgery.

The only way to possibly get rid of it is surgery and it is not guaranteed to work.

So if your sweating is due to hyperhydrosis, this surgery MAY cure it, or may cure it where you are currently getting it and have it move to another location. It usually happens in the palms, underarms, back, groin and/or feet areas.

I asked about whether this surgery will help, and my surgeon said they have had people with this condition experience less sweating, and in some cases, completely stop it.

I hope, as I know how horrible this condition is, that you don't have it and it's just the summer heat or some other hormone imbalance that can be corrected.  If it is, I hope your surgery takes care of it for you.  I feel for you.
