Why can't we have opti fast post-op?

I am 3 weeks post-op and having issues with drinking protein drinks or adding powder to my foods.

Why aren't we able to have optifast after? I have a few left over so was just curious.

I had Dr. Sullivan at St. Joe's Toronto and he told me it was fine to use up my Optifast post op.  It's more of a meal replacement so has higher calories and higher carbs than most of the other protein shakes they recommend.

As mentioned by the other poster. High in calories and carbs not enough protein. Better to try to figure out what will work for you long term. You may also find the opti doesn't sit any better than the protein drinks.

our centre does not suggest opti for post ops, too many carbs, not enough protein for sure. Keep trying different proteins. I finally started to like the premier protein drinks from Costco, and I have tried a ton of different ones. Perhaps adding more greek yoghurt to your menu each day? It takes time to build up to the recommended amounts of 60-80 gms a day but eventually you will get there. I honestly dont suggest using your opti.

I couldn't drink any protein shakes or powder after surgery. They all made me gag. So I started drinking 3 cups of milk per day, which was almost half the protein I needed. It was fine.
About 2 months post op a friend gave me a sample of shakeology and I have been ordering it online and having it for breakfast ever since.

I had never heard of this protein shake. Just checked the calories etc and it seems good. Do they have an after taste at all? Which flavours have you tried?

I hate to say this, but shakeology shakes are not good for us. They are not absorbed at all. We need whey isolate, never mind the fact that the amount of protein is very low. I have a good friend who sells this stuff, she kept trying to get me on it, but my dietician said to stay clear of it, you won't absorb any of the protein.

Dawn put together a great post on this subject, I hope she doesn't mind I pasted it here.

I add double the water to my shakes- it's the only way I can stomach them- I even add water to the pre made shakes and lots of ice-

I only do chocolate shakeology and make with milk no****er. It can be a bit grainy if you don't do it in blender. It comes with millions of recipes to make different flavours of shakes but I drink my plain.

I'm really surprised that your dietician okay'd shakeology. It is usually not approved.  Too many carbs and not enough protein according to their rules for protein.
