Introducing myself...26 weeks pregnant 2.5 years post op
Hello,
I just had my 3 year anniversary of my RNY surgery on June 26th. So I was about 2.5 years out when I got pregnant. I had gained some of my weight back before getting pregnant. Although I had not started back on any of my pre surgery medications. Before surgery I took 3 insulin shots a day and about 8 medicines for diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
I am kicking myself for putting some weight back on because I know this pregnancy would have been a little easier and I would have looked a little cutier with my baby bump. But, there is nothing I can do about that now. I can tell the difference in my first pregnancy that I had over 5 years ago when I was heavier.
I am scheduled for a c-section on September 30th. I know that will come real soon. Before pregnancy my A1c was 6.0 but they wanted my blood sugars the best they could be so I am on 20 units of insulin once a day. My last pregnancy I was on 60 units 3 times a day so it is still a lot better. My A1c now is 5.2. I also had to go on a small dosage of BP meds during pregnancy. I have not gained any weight so far. I think that is getting ready to change because my appetite is picking up . I am still restrictive in my food intake amounts so its hard to eat much at one sitting. I think the pregnancy has brought back some of my restriction that I had lost and also some of my dumping symptoms. They only big issue I am having is my iron. I had problems after surgery and almost got to the point of need iron infusions. They doctor called yesterday and told me to up my iron pills. Hopefully that will do the trick.
Well, I just thought I would share my story. Being pregnant has brought me back to the forums so I may be asking some questions. I know I will also need some support after surgery to take my weight that I had gained before pregnancy off.

Welcome and congratulations! About the iron, my doctors had me on the ferrous sulfate elixir (liquid) it worked a lot better for me with the surgery...we can absorb it better than the pills. You might check w/your doctor to see if they can do that which was the last step for me before infusion...glad they didn't have to do that.
