 Hi ladies,

I'm almost 9 months post-op and got a positive pregnancy test this morning (well, two).  My DH and I are very excited because we tried for 1.5 years before surgery without luck.  But I'm very nervous and cautious too.  I see my VSG surgeon tomorrow.  I called and told the nurse I am pregnant and she said he needs me to come in.  Did any of you have that happen?  What was the appt like?  Do you have any tips for getting all the calories in?

Thanks!

I started at 324lbs and a size 26.  After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011.  My second daughter was born in September 2013.  I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs.  I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter.  The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls.  My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.

Hey, congratulations!!  I had a different surgery so I can't weigh in on your question, but that's really exciting news!  Hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Grats!

I'm also 9 months out from VSG and almost at goal when I found out DH and I were expecting a surprise #3 (we also have 15 month old twins).
When I called my surgeon they didn't ask me to come in, but did refer me to a Nutritionist to make sure I would be getting enough vitamins/calories for a healthy pregnancy. Maybe your doctor is planning something similar?

As far as getting calories, you only need 100 extra calories for the first trimester and 200-300 extra for the last 2 trimesters to maintain a healthy pregnancy (500 extra calories for twins). Basically adding some extra peanut butter, cheese, nuts, full fat dairy, ect. My nutritionist also said to aim for 100g of carbs and 100g of protein each day to keep your body out of ketosis which can be really bad for the baby's brain and nervous system development.

Good luck. Thankfully we don't have malabsorption like some surgeries so it's easier for the baby to get everything it needs. My OB doesn't consider VSG patients high-risk, but does for DS and RNY mamas.
