Nutrition and pregnancy?? I'm Clueless!!!

I found out I was pregnant a few days ago but the earliest available appointment I could get with a pregnancy doctor is August 16th....

I am two years out from an RNY and am not quite sure what my new nutritional needs are as a pregnant woman.... I went ahead and added a pregnancy vitamin to my daily pile of pills...but is there something else I should be doing or taking??? (Also, I'm having a really difficult time keeping any of my pills down since they all seem to make me want to vomit...)

I was not supposed to be able to get pregnant (even with WLS) so I didn't prep my body in any way and never did any research concerning WLS and pregnancy....and am a bit concerned I am somehow harming my future child.

ANY recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Grats on the pregnancy!
It can't hurt to add some Folic Acid to your daily vitamin mix until you get in to see your doctor.

Push protein.  A lot of pregnant women get protein aversions, but that's not good if you have had WLS.  I've read that lack of protein can actually cause the aversion (weird, huh) so try to stay ahead of it.  Everyone's needs are different but you might need 25-50 grams extra of protein a day, as a ballpark.  I need about one more good-size protein serving a day than usual.   I'm a DSer, so I am supposed to aim for 100 grams, but I need at least 150 since I became pregnant or I feel cruddy.

Vitamins depend on labs.  Call your bariatric surgeon as well as your OB or midwife and get seen for labs and basic info on post-op pregnancy.

Congrats and don't stress!

Congrats!  And I'm in the same boat with you... Except I'm not having any trouble with my pills. You might want to see if you can talk to a nutritionist at your surgeon's office? That's what mine recommended. I'm doing my yearly after surgery labs this weekend, and hopefully since upping my iron and vit d, that those are back into normal or better range. Hope this helps!!

Hey Congrats! I am having the same problem taking my vitamins...right now not that its a good idea to not take them..but I am not taking mine until I see my OB and see what we can do about these vitamin pills. My levels were fine before I got pregnant and I honestly was not taking them everyday like I should of I was just taking them whenever I felt the need to...weird but I listen to my body in a different way I know later on may be different but right now im fine. I have been soo sick  to the point when i get up and move around im gaggin seriously bad...just thinking of swallowing a pill makes me gag. Im praying my Ob can give me an anti nausea pill or something to help me.
