Has anyone ever rented a breast pump? I am stuck between buying one or renting one from the hospital.
For the ladies that have bought one. What kind do you have?

I never rented one but I'm getting the Medela Pump in Style. I'm not sure how long you plan to rent a pump...but buying might be the cheaper option. I'm pretty sure they ask a lot for rent.

I rented one with my twins because the rental ones are heavy duty. I have had several friends who said their results weren't as good with most of the kinds you can buy. The rental pumps are pretty cheap @ most hospitals (in my area anyway). At the hospital where we are delivering, they give you a discount for delivering there & renting from them. It's a hard decision. Not a lot of people want to buy a used breast pump. So, what do you do with it when you're finished...

I wouldn't rent.  I looked into it, it was 95 dollars a month, plus 55 dollars to buy the tubing and storage bags.  I would rather buy one for that money.

I rented for a week when Riley was in the NICU and I loved the hospital pump but it was expensive. I bought the larger shells and pumped on both sides at the same time. If I were you I would rent for one month and make as many extra bottles and you can and then if you need it longer rent a month longer or buy your own if you think you will need it. In the 5 days that I pumped I made about 30 oz of bottles but Riley never would take them so they went to waste.

If you register at Target or BabiesRUs, they will give you a 20% off coupon for items on your registry that haven't been purchased just before the arrival. We registered for the pump at BabiesRUs and then used the coupon. When I checked out pricing, the pumps were cheaper at BRU to begin with. Great way to save some $$ if you decide to buy your own.

PS BRU offered an extended warranty. We don't normally go for things like this, but we did on this since it was such a big expense packed into a little machine. With toting it here and there, it's bound to get dropped and we thought the likelihood of something happening was decent. So far so good though in the 5 months of daily use.

Edit to add: I have the Medela Pump in Style and I love it!

I also have Madela Pump in Style, and loved it with #1, and plan to pump with #2.

Never rented one, but faithful user of the Medela Pump In Style Advance. I used this pump with my son Tyler and plan on using it again for this baby. I've had it for over 4 years and it's still going strong.
