Question about TTC

I'm almost a year post-op, I've hit my goal weight and am pretty much maintaining at this point. I'd really like to start TTC within the next couple of months, but I know we're not supposed to for 18-24 months after surgery. If I can eat enough to get the nutrition I'd need to support a pregnancy and I'm not losing weight, is it really that dangerous? I've been married for almost 5 years and I'm 30, so I'd really like to start sooner rather than later if I can. I plan on asking my surgeon when I see him Thursday, but I wanted to be prepared in case he yells at me. :)

My Dr. said to wait a minimum of one year out if I had RNY... in your case, being at your goal weight and maintaining, I have a feeling your doctor will also be supportive. Good luck!

Hey Brandi, I see Dr Averbach and him and Dr Singh use to share their bariatric surgery practice together, as a matter of fact I saw them hanging out in Dr Averbach's office this past Friday morning. That was to say that these 2 surgeon's "generally" share the same philosophies and Dr. Averbach feels 12-18months to get started on TTC is okay. At least that was what he explained to me after choosing RNY.  However, Dr Averbach does look for minimal changes in weightloss to make sure you're not still in that accelerated weight loss phase. Good luck with everything and I'm sure he won't yell :) LOL

I would say to start on prenatals now...also make sure all of your labs are okay and none of your vitamin levels are slipping. Get your labs checked often while pg. Lots of gals do great at a year out. And remember it could take awhile to get pg too. Good luck! Shari
