When can you find out the gender?

My doctor will do an ultrasound at 20 weeks that will hopefully let me know the gender of my child...but I have noticed on this website that there are people at less than 20 weeks who know their baby's gender.

So when can one find out the gender? I am so impatient, lol, I would love to know sooner if possible!!

I found out at 18 weeks that we are having a girl.  I was rather impatient myself :)  Wished we couldve found out sooner, but she really didnt want to cooperate easily that day but finally gave in and did...lol

We found out at 16 weeks. It was pretty obvious he was a boy and showed off the "goods".

With my twins we found out at 18 weeks since both girls were very uncooperative and sat crossed-legged throughout most of the ultrasounds.

A skilled tech can make very accurate guesses as early as 12-13 weeks using this technique- Angle of the Dangle: http://www.baby2see.com/gender/external_genitals.html

Most people find out at their 18-20 week ultrasound since most women only have 1 or 2 ultrasounds with a normal healthy pregnancy.

Goodluck! I hope your baby cooperates!

I'm going to try and find out at my 16 week, as most SKILLED sonographer's can determine with GREAT accuracy the gender of your baby. Always remember , the accuracy of your scan no matter how far along you are is only as good and accurate as the one who's reading it. I've heard people who got scans at 32 and 34 weeks and found them to be wrong. They must have the most advance equipment (GE Voluson 730), which is what Tom Cruise purchased for their home when katie was pregnant..LOL, RDMS (Registered sonographers go through vigorious schooling) sonographer and definitely much cooperation from the baby. I'm going to a sonographer who works out of The Genetic Center, *****ads ultrasounds to determine abnormaities in the womb such as Down Syndrome, etc.. for many of Maryland OB/GYN's. I'm confident that what she will read at my 16 weeks (which is this Friday) will be accurate.

Thanks Chelle , Hopefully the baby will open the legs nice and wide for the ultrasound sonographer. ..LOL..I know huh...I wish I had Tom Cruise money, as I'd buy one of those machines and would be looking at the baby everyday.

I found out at 19w2d, at my doctor's recommendation. She said that many times, they can be wrong if they're done too early. However, I have known people to find out as early as 16 weeks, and they've been accurate.

I found out at 16 weeks with my son, and with my second son on the way I found out at 17 weeks. Very plain as day too! No denying it at all! With my daughter I was about 20 weeks because she did not cooperate at the 18 week u/s
