Not so good doctor's appointment...
So, I went for my appointment today. First thing, my Blood Pressure was up & I had protein in my urine. So, right away, the doctor said I'd have to come back in a week to monitor for signs of pre-eclampsia. They are especially concerned about it because of my severe pre-eclampsia that led to premature delivery via emergency c-section with my first pregnancy. Then, she measures my fundal height & my uterus measures small. So, she orders an ultrasound. During the ultrasound, they find that my cervix is shortened to 2.5 (should be greater than 3) & my fluid is 9 (should be greater than 10). I still have not gained any weight, but I'm only down 6lbs. I was down almost 15lbs at one point. My cervix never shortened with the twins it was still like 3.5 @ 31 wks when I delivered ??? I know every pregnancy is different. Then, of course, they tell you not to worry because stress isn't good...Seriously ??? I cannot afford to go on bed rest. I don't have any sick/PTO time for when I do deliver. So, I'll already be off without pay after delivery. I'm trying to stay positive because so far Kinsley looks healthy. I just really want to carry her to term. I feel so guilty : ( I go back tomorrow for a recheck & to discuss whether or not I have to go to high risk. I'm really hoping thing work out because the high risk OB & hospital are "out of network" for our insurance. So our bills will be outrageous, but of course I'll do anything necessary to keep Kinsley healthy. Thanks for listening friends !
i had the same problem.. i delivered my son at 35 weeks with no warnings... my 2nd pregnancy i was watched very close... they wanted my cervix to stay above two... i started at 3.5.. and by 22 weeks i was at 2.2 ... by 31 weeks 1.8... 34 weeks i stayed the same .. they high risk practice felt it was ok to let me go... i didnt deliver until 39 weeks.. i rested as much as i could... i know harder said then done..
Thanks Ladies : ) I went back yesterday. They agreed to keep monitoring me there as long as things stay "stable". I have to go in weekly for an ultrasound to measure cervical length & fluid levels. Every two weeks they will do a fetal fibronectin. The one yesterday was negative which is great. Also, my Blood pressure was down to 120. So, that's reassuring. I'm trying to stay positive & rest as much as possible. Thanks again for the support !!! Oh, Holly, about the disability... Short term disability is provided by employers, unless you carry a personal policy which I don't. The hospital I work for does not offer a short term disability plan :( , But I have looked into an emergency withdrawal from my 401K. I'm hoping that comes through.
The only thing I can give advice on is the cervix thing (which is why the last 12 weeks I've been on bed rest and will continue to be until my little girl is here.) 2.5cm isn't a real bad measurement. Our bodies can handle even shorter. The last 7 weeks mine has held at 1.5cm. ( I do take medicines though too.) Wishing you the best. I love the name by the way. We almost named ours Kinsley but decided on Briley. =)
