Does anyone know of some books that deal with pregnancy after WLS. Or even a book with a good chapter on it. Im 9 months postop RNY and will start TTC next week.  I had 3 losses prior to my surgery so im a little nervous about trying. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you

Not to sound mean, but did your surgeon give you the ok? My surgeon told me to wait at least a year and a half so that I have lost all the weight I was going to loose or else why bother having the surgery? I actully ahd NO plans on TTC...I am 2 years out and found out about my surprise 3 months ago. I was still having eating issues at 9 month post-op. But good luck!! I wish you well. I'm sure some of the other girls on here will ahve some advice for you!!

I agree w/the previous poster.  Make sure you've got the OK from your surgeon before TTC.  You want what's healthiest for you and the baby you are going to TTC.  Your weight needs to be stabilized - not continuing to lose - and you need to be able to eat relatively 'normally.'

If your dr gives the OK, then if you get pregnant, your pregnancy would be pretty much the same as any other (non-WLS) pregnancy.  The only two things that you need to know are to stay out of ketosis - which you could (or not) be in at only 9 months out - and monitor your labs to make sure they're stabilized and stay that way (ie you'd have to get them done a few times during a pregnancy).

Whenever you do get pregnant again, I pray it's a sticky bean for you.  After having been through several losses myself, I understand how scary it is to get back on that wagon and try again.

Yeah, if you still have 63lbs to go, I would wait another few months, Especially since you want to avoid another loss. Your body will be healthier, weight will be stable, and thus reducing much of the risksyou've had before, or will have TTC while your weight is still going down hill. Ultimately, it's up to you. So far I haven't seen any books about pregnancy after WLS, I am following the protien, veggies, and fruit road. It's important to get complex carbs while being pregnant.

Your Dr. gave you the ok to start TTC at 9 months? Even with you having a good amount left to lose? i'm sorry but either you misunderstood your dr, or your dr is very irresponsible. 18 months is recommended for a reason. We want to get pregnant and start our families, but we have to do what is going to be healthy for our baby. Good luck to you, when the time is right.

Well then...GO FOR IT!!!!! I have had a hard time with the eating thing since my surgery and when I found out I was preg this time, all my doctors panicked because I do not eat enough and they are terribly worried about ketosis...I find that the only thing really "different" is that I dump alot easier while I am pregnant than I would prior...I think that this site is better than any books because we all have gone thru so many different experiences and I know my self, I learn alot!! Good luck, and I will keep my fingers crossed for you!!
